LOCATION
5614 E. Sam Houston Pkwy N. Houston, TX 77015 Some travel required as needed with doctor to Pearland location.
POSITION SUMMARY
Contributes to the organization by working closely with the ophthalmologist to perform basic, advance, and complex preliminary tests and measurements of the eyes. The OA generally meets with the patient before the Ophthalmologist to obtain medical history and prepare the patient for the examination.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for properly stocking, preparing, and maintaining the cleanliness of exam rooms during clinic. Reviews patient chart for accuracy of information. Prepare patients for physicians exam. Perform tests based on the specific reasons for the visit and physicians preference. Assists with in-office procedures. Prepare and ensure all consent forms are complete and accurate prior to in-office procedures. Prepares and cleans room after procedure. Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician. May act as scribe to assist physicians with entering exam information into electronic record. Order diagnostic tests electronically and submit prescription refills approved by physician. Assists with preparing letters to patients and referring physicians. Assists with diagnostic testing. Follow-up on diagnostic tests when directed by physician. Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments. Assists in training of other ophthalmic assistants. Must meet and adhere to HEAs policies and procedures, uphold to the highest ethical principles and patient confidentiality. Complies with all State and Federal regulations. Other duties as assigned based on business operational needs. Skills and Abilities Visual Assessment Visual Field Testing (CVF, Amsler Grid, HVF) Pupil Assessment Tonometry (iCare, Goldmann Applanation, and Tonopen) Keratometry (manual and automated) Ocular Motility Testing Lensometry (Manual and automated) Refraction (utilizing phoroptor, duochrome, fogging, Prince rule, trial frame) Retinoscopy and Refinement (at the COT and COMT level) Basic Contact Lens knowledge

M/F/H/V COMPETENCIES EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES
Basic Life Support (BLS). Uncertified Ophthalmic Assistants must obtain JCAHPO (COA, COT, or COMT) certification within 1 year of employment.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum 1-2 years' experience working with ophthalmologist.
