Job Description

Job Overview Join our dynamic ophthalmology team as an Ophthalmic Tech/Scribe, where you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care while supporting clinical documentation and administrative functions. This energetic position combines technical ophthalmic skills with administrative expertise to ensure smooth clinic operations. You will work closely with ophthalmologists and patients, providing vital assistance during examinations and procedures, capturing accurate medical records, and maintaining a welcoming environment for all patients. Your proactive approach and attention to detail will help enhance patient experiences and streamline clinic workflows. Duties Assist ophthalmologists during patient examinations by preparing the exam room, handling instruments, and ensuring proper aseptic technique. Accurately document patient encounters in electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Nextech or similar platforms, including medical history, symptoms, and clinical findings. Take and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, and visual acuity measurements to support diagnosis and treatment planning. Conduct patient intake by collecting comprehensive medical histories, current medications, allergies, and relevant demographic information while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations. Support patient care activities such as dilating pupils, administering eye drops, and assisting with basic procedures under supervision. Manage medical records efficiently, ensuring confidentiality and proper organization in accordance with HIPAA standards. Accurately document patient history, exam findings, diagnoses, treatment plans, and procedures in the EMR during patient visits Assist physicians during exams and minor procedures Prepare patient charts prior to appointments Enter orders, prescriptions, and referrals as directed by the physician Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations Maintain clinic cleanliness and adhere to infection control protocols using aseptic techniques during procedures to ensure patient safety. Collaborate with the team to improve clinic processes and ensure a positive experience for patients. Experience Prior experience in a medical office setting is highly preferred, especially within ophthalmology or optometry clinics. Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy related to the eye, physiology principles relevant to vision health, and ophthalmic procedures. Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or other electronic health record platforms is essential for accurate documentation. Experience with medical billing and coding practices is a plus to support administrative functions effectively. Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy at all times. Ability to perform vital signs measurement accurately and support clinical activities involving aseptic technique. Retail sales experience combined with front desk duties enhances the ability to provide comprehensive patient service in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of pediatrics is advantageous for caring for younger patients with patience and professionalism.
