Job Description

Berkeley Eye Center has been a leading vision care provider for over 60 years, offering surgical, clinical, and research services. As part of our continued growth, we are expanding our involvement in clinical research studies, which has led to the creation of the Ophthalmic Clinical Studies Technician role. Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator and Clinical Research Coordinator, this position supports clinical research activities while also assisting with routine clinical exams. We are looking for an experienced Ophthalmic Assistant who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and thrives both independently and as part of a collaborative team. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong interdepartmental collaboration and can effectively partner with cross-functional teams. Candidates should be comfortable reviewing patient medical records to determine eligibility for study participation and supporting recruitment efforts. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential. This role requires a high level of organization, reliability, and adaptability. The ideal candidate can manage multiple priorities, plan effectively, and remain flexible as responsibilities evolve with the role. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Review patient medical records to screen for study eligibility Contact potential participants to discuss study opportunities Schedule and reschedule appointments for study patients Prepare and maintain patient charts Assist with data entry of clinical exams into electronic data capture (EDC) systems Support clinical exams as needed Collect and organize required study documentation Communicate with primary care providers (PCPs) as needed Assist with end-of-study documentation and close-out activities Required Qualifications Experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to review and interpret medical records accurately Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively Proficiency with computer systems and data entry Reliable, professional, and patient-focused approach Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Preferred Qualifications Prior experience supporting clinical research studies Familiarity with clinical research processes, protocols, or EDC systems Knowledge of ophthalmology terminology and procedures Experience with patient recruitment or study coordination Previous experience working in a multi-site or fast-paced clinical environment
Schedule:
