Position Summary The Ophthalmic Assistant plays a vital role in helping patients move smoothly through their visit. This position combines direct patient care, clinical testing, and administrative support. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, enjoys working with people, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Welcome patients and help ensure a positive office experience Obtain patient medical and ocular histories Perform preliminary testing, including: Visual acuity, Autorefraction, Lensometry, Retinal imaging, Visual field testing, Optical coherence tomography (OCT) Prepare patients for examination by the doctor Assist with contact lens training and education Order contact lenses and trial lenses, track outstanding orders, and coordinate delivery to patients Communicate with contact lens manufacturers and suppliers regarding orders, exchanges, and warranty issues Coordinate referrals to specialists, including obtaining prior authorizations when required, transmitting records, and tracking referral status Assist patients with referral scheduling and follow-up as needed Document findings accurately in electronic medical records Support front office operations as needed, including scheduling, patient communications, and phone calls Maintain exam rooms, equipment, and clinical supplies Help create a clean, organized, and efficient clinic environment Verify and communicate insurance benefits related to referrals, specialty care, and contact lenses Troubleshoot patient questions regarding contact lens orders, specialty referrals, and follow-up care Collaborate with team members to ensure timely patient care and continuity of treatment Physical Abilities Able to sit for an extended period of time. Reach and stoop to file levels Answer telephone Lift up to 50 pounds Use keyboard

Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
