Optometry Assistant Muslim Community & Health Center Milwaukee, WI Job Details Part-time $18 - $19 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Customer communication High school diploma or GED Full Job Description Optometry Assistant Position Summary We are seeking a dependable and patient-focused Optometry Assistant to support our Optometrist and help provide excellent patient care. This position is scheduled for Wednesdays only and is expected to begin in early to mid-July. Previous optometry experience is preferred but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates a strong work ethic, commitment to learning, and general knowledge of healthcare or optometry. Responsibilities Welcome and prepare patients for eye examinations. Obtain and document patient medical and vision histories. Perform basic pre-testing and vision screening procedures, including visual acuity, lensometry, and other basic diagnostic procedures as directed. Assist the Optometrist during patient visits and examinations. Educate patients on eye care instructions and contact lens use as appropriate. Maintain accurate patient records and documentation. Clean and prepare exam rooms and equipment between patients. Assist with scheduling, patient flow, and other administrative duties as needed. Provide excellent customer service and ensure a positive patient experience. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working in an optometry, ophthalmology, medical, dental, or other healthcare setting. Experience performing patient intake, obtaining medical histories, or assisting with clinical procedures. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems. Experience using Epic or another electronic medical record (EMR) system. Knowledge of basic eye care terminology, vision testing, or contact lens procedures. Bilingual abilities are a plus. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. General knowledge of healthcare, medical office operations, or optometry preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to learn new skills and follow clinical procedures. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Reliable attendance and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Schedule Part-time position Wednesdays only Start date: Early to mid-July Training Provided We welcome candidates who may not have direct optometry experience but have a healthcare background or related knowledge and a genuine interest in learning. Training will be provided for the right individual who is committed to developing the skills necessary to succeed in the role.
