OF OPTICAL JOB SUMMARY
The Optician II is responsible for supporting the Optical Manager while providing high‑quality optical services to patients. This role includes selling eyewear, adjusting and repairing frames, dispensing lenses and contact lenses, and ensuring accurate processing of optical orders. The Optician II delivers excellent patient service, maintains confidentiality, and supports the daily operations of the optical department. Education & Experience High school diploma required Fluency in English; bilingual preferred Minimum two years of experience in an optical department Strong computer proficiency Core knowledge of frame adjustments and repairs Understanding of frame selection, lens styles, and lens materials Experience entering charges and payments accurately and efficiently Knowledge of insurance processes and spectacle reimbursement Experience ordering contact lenses Demonstrated ability to maintain patient confidentiality Essential Skills & Abilities Ability to maintain strict patient confidentiality Strong professional interpersonal skills Respectful and patient‑focused demeanor Excellent verbal and written communication Team‑oriented mindset Ability to manage multiple patients simultaneously Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Legible handwriting Computer literacy Basic knowledge of medical and ophthalmic terminology Ability to pass a drug test Primary Responsibilities The Optician II performs all duties assigned by management, with emphasis on the following: Interpret prescriptions to determine appropriate lens and frame combinations that meet patient needs and cosmetic preferences Fit, fill, and adapt prescriptions to ensure optimal visual performance Resolve patient concerns related to eyewear or prescriptions within the scope of NELC guidelines Process optical jobs from patient to lab; verify accuracy upon receipt and complete finishing tasks such as tinting or UV400 application Submit purchase orders for lab supplies to the Optical Manager for approval and place orders once approved Order contact lenses for both stock and patient needs Process and ship jobs to labs or other destinations as required Assist Accounts Payable by reconciling billing statements and organizing vendor invoices (ABB Concise, Essilor Labs, Altair, etc.) Monitor daily inventory levels of frames and optical supplies to identify shrinkage Check out optical patients, complete superbills, collect payments, and finalize all required documentation in a timely manner Answer optical‑related phone calls Assist with maintenance of all optical equipment Perform additional job‑related duties as assigned Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for up to eight hours
