The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in retail sales and patient care, with a passion for enhancing visual health and providing exceptional customer service. As an Optician, you will play a vital role in assisting patients with frame selection, lens options, and fitting procedures while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and maintaining accurate medical records. This position offers an engaging environment where clinical expertise meets retail experience, contributing to improved patient outcomes and satisfaction. Responsibilities Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear by understanding their prescription needs, lifestyle, and aesthetic preferences. Take precise measurements of patients' eyes, including pupillary distance and frame fit, to ensure optimal lens placement. Provide guidance on lens options, coatings, and materials based on individual needs such as pediatrics or senior care. Maintain detailed medical records using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or similar platforms, ensuring HIPAA compliance. Collaborate with optometrists and other healthcare providers to support comprehensive eye care services. Manage retail sales processes efficiently, including inventory management, retail math calculations, and customer transactions. Educate patients on proper eye care routines, vital signs related to ocular health, and medical terminology relevant to their treatment plans. Support clinic operations by understanding medical billing procedures and coding for optical services when applicable. Experience Previous experience working in an optometry office Hands-on experience with EMR systems such as Epic or other electronic medical records platforms is preferred. Background in retail sales or retail management provides a strong foundation for customer service excellence within the optical environment. Understanding of medical coding, billing practices, and HIPAA regulations ensures compliance and efficient administrative workflows. Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics and senior care is advantageous. Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive medical records with confidentiality while maintaining accuracy in documentation.
