The Optician will assist Veterans with frame selection, prescription eyewear measurements, fittings, adjustments, repairs, and patient education while ensuring exceptional customer service and compliance with VA standards. This position supports the Baltimore VA Medical Center and affiliated outpatient clinics throughout Maryland. Work Schedule
  • Full-Time (40 Hours Per Week)
  • Monday - Friday
  • 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • No weekends required unless special clinics are scheduled

  • Perry Point VA Medical Center

  • Cambridge CBOC
  • Eastern Baltimore County CBOC

  • Pocomoke City CBOC Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist Veterans with frame selection and eyewear recommendations
  • Measure pupillary distance (PD), segment heights, and fitting requirements
  • Verify prescription specifications provided by VA Optometrists and Ophthalmologists
  • Perform eyewear fittings, adjustments, and dispensing services
  • Conduct minor repairs including: o Frame adjustments o Nose pad replacements o Screw replacements o Basic frame repairs
  • Educate Veterans regarding eyewear use and care
  • Answer questions regarding eyeglass orders and status
  • Document services within VA electronic medical record systems
  • Maintain compliance with VA, FDA, ANSI, Joint Commission, and CMS standards
  • Provide exceptional customer service to Veteran patients Required QualificationsMust Meet One of the
Following:
States Requiring Licensure
  • Current unrestricted State Optician License OR States Without Optician Licensure
  • Current American Board of Opticianry (ABO) Certification Additional Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of Optician experience preferred
  • Experience with optical dispensing and frame fitting
  • Ability to accurately interpret optical prescriptions
  • Strong patient service and communication skills
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Eligible to pass VA credentialing and background investigation Preferred Experience
  • Veterans Affairs experience
  • Hospital or medical clinic optical experience
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience
  • CPRS experience
  • Multi-site clinic experience Required Compliance Prior to Start
