This paid apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced clinical environment, working alongside experienced professionals. You'll learn the fundamentals of patient care, optical product selection, and medical record management while contributing to improved vision health for diverse patient populations. Duties Assist licensed opticians and ophthalmologists in patient consultations, including taking vital signs and basic eye measurements Support the preparation and sterilization of ophthalmic instruments using aseptic techniques Help patients select appropriate eyewear by understanding retail sales principles and optical product features Maintain accurate medical records and documentation using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems such as Epic or similar platforms Learn medical terminology related to ophthalmology, pediatrics, senior care, and general health assessments Support laboratory tasks such as lens fitting, measurements, and basic optical adjustments Participate in clinic activities including patient check-in/out, updating medical histories, and managing appointment schedules Requirements Strong interest in ophthalmology, optometry, or healthcare fields with a desire to pursue further certification or education Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to eye care and general health Ability to learn and operate EMR systems like Epic efficiently Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients of all ages, including pediatrics and senior care populations Familiarity with retail sales principles and retail math for assisting with eyewear sales Willingness to adhere to HIPAA regulations ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality Previous laboratory or clinic experience is a plus but not required; training will be provided for all technical skills This paid apprenticeship is designed to empower motivated individuals eager to grow their expertise in eye health while gaining valuable clinical experience.
