We are a private, single-doctor optometry practice in Bellingham, WA, dedicated to serving our community's eye care and eyewear needs. Salary and Schedule Pay:

Benefits & Perks Paid major holidays Employee discount on eye care and eyewear Health Savings Plan / health benefits TBD Position Summary Effectively meet patient needs with appropriate lens and frame solutions. In this role, you will be responsible for managing administrative, optical floor, and billing operations at Eyes Rite Optical. Core Optical Responsibilities Perform all aspects of optician duties: obtain necessary fitting measurements, assist with frame selection, and educate and recommend appropriate prescription lenses to provide an optimal visual experience for the patient's needs. Adjust eyewear to ensure visual acuity, proper fit, and patient comfort. Demonstrate proficiency in using tools such as pupilometers, PD sticks, lensometers, pliers, wrenches, and frame warmers. Create work orders for the lab with high accuracy, specifying detailed information on required lenses. Maintain merchandise inventory. Clean and organize frame boards, displays, mirrors, workbenches, the office area, the backroom, and the bathroom to maintain the overall cleanliness and visual appeal of the store. Educate patients on the proper care and use of prescribed contact lenses. Understand product issues, analyze problems, and thoroughly answer patients' questions regarding insurance, warranties, products, materials, services, pricing, upgrades, and promotions. Develop a personal clientele by providing outstanding service and obtaining referrals. Meet with representatives from frame manufacturers and recommend inventory changes to respond to industry technical and fashion trends. Office Management & Administrative Responsibilities Check eligibility/benefits and confirm coverage of vision and medical insurance plans (VSP, Medicaid, KP, PBC, etc.), and process insurance claims. Manage patient flow by scheduling appointments, handling correspondence, and serving as the primary point of contact on the main office phone line. Handle hands-on management of POS transactions, cash, credit cards, and checks. Use electronic practice management software to accurately enter orders for frames and spectacle lenses and create patient invoices. Required Qualifications Excellent customer service skills—friendly, pleasant, and energetic. Well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. High attention to detail. Strong math and computer skills with at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Deep knowledge of the optical industry, including lenses, frames, and insurance procedures. Professional attitude and appearance. Ability to feel at ease educating patients on their options (we are not a high-pressure sales office). Minimum of one year of optical experience preferred. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations. Dependability and punctuality. Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Preferred Qualifications & Education 2-5 years of related work experience in an optometric office environment. ABO-NCLE
