Full-Time | Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Position Summary We are seeking two qualified and customer-focused Certified Opticians to provide onsite optical services for Veterans at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center. The Optician will support the Eye Clinic by assisting patients with eyewear selection, fittings, measurements, adjustments, repairs, and prescription verification while ensuring exceptional patient care and compliance with VA standards. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, technical optical knowledge, and the ability to work collaboratively with VA clinical staff in a professional healthcare environment. Key Responsibilities Assist Veterans with frame selection and lifestyle-based eyewear recommendations Perform optical measurements including pupillary distance (PD), segment heights, and base curves Verify eyeglass prescription specifications provided by VA Optometry/Ophthalmology clinics Fit, adjust, and dispense eyeglasses Perform minor repairs including screw replacement, nose pad replacement, and frame adjustments Document patient care accurately within
CPRS/EHR
systems Maintain compliance with VA, HIPAA, Joint Commission, and CMS standards Provide excellent customer service and maintain professional interactions with Veterans and VA staff Ensure optical equipment and tools are maintained in proper working condition Participate in required VA training and background clearance processes Minimum Qualifications Required Qualifications American Board of Opticianry (ABO) Certification required Must be technically proficient in optical dispensing and patient care services Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently Experience with eyeglass fittings, measurements, and repairs Strong customer service and communication skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a healthcare setting Must successfully complete VA background investigation and credentialing requirements prior to start Must complete all required HIPAA, privacy, and VA training Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in a VA, hospital, or medical clinic environment Knowledge of
CPRS/EHR
documentation systems State Optician license (if applicable) Experience working with diverse patient populations Work Environment & Schedule Onsite position at VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM No overtime without prior authorization Federal holidays observed Additional Requirements Must maintain certifications and continuing education requirements throughout employment Must comply with all VA privacy and information security regulations Must maintain professional appearance and conduct consistent with VA standards
