Optometry Position Available:
Clinical Assistant Professor in Pittsburgh, PA The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a dedicated optometrist to join our team in a high-volume, academically affiliated clinical setting. While the core of this role involves providing routine optometric care, the position also offers the opportunity to manage complex cases and work closely with ophthalmology colleagues, including active involvement in pre- and post-operative care. This is an ideal role for someone who values collaborative care, enjoys clinical variety, and is passionate about education and professional growth. Residency training is preferred but not required for this position. We welcome candidates who are enthusiastic about making a meaningful impact on patient care, education, and the future of optometry.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver optometric care for complex ocular conditions, including fitting soft and RGP contact lenses. Provide optical management for double vision with additional training available from our team if necessary. Accurately and efficiently triage patients, ensuring timely and appropriate care. Engage in scholarly activities that support ongoing learning and professional development. Establish a strong teaching presence with optometry students, residents, and staff.
About The Department of Ophthalmology:
At the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Department of Ophthalmology, we're dedicated to advancing the field of eye care through exceptional training, groundbreaking research, and world-class clinical care. Each year, we welcome six ophthalmology residents as well as fellows in every ophthalmic subspecialty. We also offer optometric residency programs in Ocular Disease and Low Vision Rehabilitation, and host fourth-year optometry externs for advanced hospital rotations and specialty contact lens training. Our distinguished team includes 60 clinical faculty and 35 research scientists, working together to push the boundaries of what is possible in vision science.
