Duties include but are not limited to the following: Trement of all ampution levels including upper limb, hip disarticulion levels. Serving as an advisor to physicians, therapists and other medical professionals with regard to indicions and contraindicions of prosthetic and orthotic componentry, prescription criteria. Maintaining continuous liaison with manufacturers and dealers of prosthetic supplies, inspecting their facilities and services and participing in the award of prosthetic appliance contracts. Participing in investigive/research project studies by selecting pients as pilot wearers of newly developed prosthetic items, evaluing the usefulness of such items and compiling of da. The orthotist

• prosthetist may be assigned to tend clinics and participe as a fully participing member of the trement team with considerable influence in the development of the trement plan.

This requires advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anomy, physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology, physics, and etiology of diseases as well as knowledge of psychology and age reled competencies. Conduct clinical pient analysis such as gait, range of motion, life-style, etc. for pients with a wide range of complex medical conditions which include unusual problems or complicions, and will design unique devices to accommode those conditions. Responsible for a pient load, and will complete all required documention including VISTA, CPRS, encounters, OWLS, and other requirements as they evolve. This may also include stock posting items delivered for inventory control, managing lab equipment inventory, placing orders using established procedures for pient specific needs, quote review from outside vendors, etc. to ensure seamless care. Review and triage orthotic prosthetic consults and prosthetics requests daily and communice with scheduling team as to which pients to schedule in-house vs. those to be sent to outside commercial vendors. Perform the necessary procedures to provide custom devices to pients as prescribed by the physician. This may include but is not limited to: casting, digitizing, scanning, positive model preparion and modificion, selecting approprie merials and components, thermoforming, trimming, assembling devices, evaluing workmanship and fabricion performed by outside central fabricion facilities, ensuring structural safety and manufacturer recommendions are followed for final delivery to pients. May be called upon to provide educional in-services to physician groups such as podiry, primary care, PMRS, orthopedics, etc. or other groups as assigned. Educion:

A bachelor's degree or higher in orthotics and prosthetics from a Commission on Accredition of Allied Health Educion Programs (CAAHEP) accredited program. OR, A bachelor's degree or higher in any major along with a post-gradue orthotics or prosthetics certifice from a CAAHEP accredited program.

Foreign Gradues:

Gradues of foreign degree programs must have proof of a minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (or foreign equivalent, as verified through an independent credential evaluion company), with a specializion in orthotics and prosthetics

Board Certificion:

Candides must be board certified by the American Board for Certificion in Orthotics and Prosthetics (ABC) or the Board for Orthotist/Prosthetist Certificion (BOC) as an orthotist, prosthetist, or orthotist/prosthetist. The board certifice must be current and the applicant must abide by the certifying body's requirements for continuing educion. Certificion as a technician, pedorthist, assistant or fitter does not meet this requirement.

English Language Proficiency:

Orthotists, prosthetists, or orthotist/prosthetists must be proficient in spoken and written as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfhering Provision as described in the VA Qualificion Standard for this occupion (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupion and meet the criteria). Physical Requirements:

VISN 20 Prosthetics Integred Service Line functions primarily within VA medical facilities; environmental exposures and physical demands vary across the health care systems. This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued sitting, with intermittent bending, pulling, and pushing. Movement between work areas within the health care system is expected. Occasional lifting of objects up to 45 pounds may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected pients and contamined merials and may be required to don protective clothing approprie to the health care environment.
