  • Full-time Big Delta Rescue, Inc.
(BDR) is a community-driven non-profit EMS organization that is recruiting a full-time Paramedic or AK-AEMT with experience in 911 based EMS response & transport. Applicants must be resilient and have field-tested clinical and communication skills . BDR is a low volume rural service with long transport times. The Delta response area averages 350 x 911 dispatches per year with approximately 250 transports annually. Transports average 4-5 hours round trip with the nearest receiving facility (Fairbanks Memorial Hospital) approximately 100 miles from Delta Junction. Employment is contingent upon approval from the BDR Medical Director to practice medicine within the appropriate scope of practice. Additional minimum qualifications are listed below. Compensation:
$85,000
  • $95,000 annualized compensation including both regular and overtime hours worked.
Rate of pay based on level of certification and experience.
Non-Exempt/Hourly Position:
The position is classified as non-exempt/hourly. Medics are on call "24/7" while on shift. All on-call hours will be paid as on-duty working hours to include up to 8 hours of sleep every 24 hours and any appropriate use of on-call time that does not conflict with job duties. All hours worked (on-call/on-duty) in excess of 8-hours/day and 40-hours/week will be paid as overtime hours at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate.

Essential Job Functions:
Emergency Duties Provide appropriate, high quality, pre-hospital emergency medical care according to BDR protocols for injured and sick persons both on-scene and while transporting to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, which is approximately 100 miles from Delta Junction. Accurately document and report patient assessments and care according to state and national standards and requirements. Assist with the coordination of emergency operations in collaboration with other emergency response agencies and local Volunteers. Maintain global scene awareness and prioritize the safety of yourself, your crew members, and your patients at all times. Non-emergency Duties Conduct daily equipment, facility and vehicle inspections to ensure the safety of crew and response readiness. Also perform routine monthly and yearly maintenance and/or testing of equipment and vehicles. Provide support for public outreach and education. Attend and participate in internal meetings, chart reviews, quality improvement activities, debriefs, and continuing education trainings. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Possess a caring and compassionate attitude, displaying the highest level of respect and professionalism for patients, affiliated healthcare workers, co-workers, volunteers and management. Ability to perform effectively and safely for extended periods of time in extreme weather and under emergency conditions with limited or no available back-up. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to remain composed in difficult and stressful situations that require emergency action and sound decisions. Must work well in a team environment. Have proficient working knowledge of emergency medical care at respective certification level. Be self-driven with a passion to provide quality care. Maintain patient privacy standards. Provide patient care according to protocols and safety requirements. Take responsibility for scene safety and management. Work collaboratively and in a professional manner with other response agencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be 25 years of age at time of application. Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted State issued driver's license throughout time of employment. (Copy of driving record must be provided at time of offer of employment) Must successfully pass a criminal background check with no barrier crimes as defined in Alaska Statute
AAC 10.905.
Current State of Alaska approved certifications for BLS/CPR, ACLS, and PALS (or equivalent). AK/NR Paramedic Certification
