SCFR is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as our departments EMS Training Officer. Under the direction of department Training Officer (Fire Captain), this position is responsible for assessing, planning, developing, and delivering a wide range of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) training to Fire/EMS personnel, managing the overall EMS training program, and managing the clinical aspects of the departments QA/QI process to inform and enhance EMS training efforts. This is a 40 hour/week position, with a Monday through Friday work schedule.Note:
This position does not include firefighting or any other activity which may occur in an Immediate Danger to Life or Health (IDLH) atmosphere.Key Responsibilities Include:
- Plans, coordinates, and delivers EMS education programs required for certification, licensure, recertification, and ongoing professional development
- Maintains accurate records of EMS certifications, continuing education hours, and training activities in coordination with appropriate staff
- Research, designs, and maintains instructional resources to support high-quality education
- Facilitates post-incident reviews and case studies to support Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Program
- Manages departments EMS licensing program, Field Training Evaluation Program (FTEP), and related documentation
- Supports community risk-reduction efforts by providing CPR, AED, Narcan, and other EMS-related public education; assist with special events as needed.
- Responds to emergency medical calls when operational demand requires (Refer to position job description for a full list of essential duties of position.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of (5) five years of pre-hospital experience as a Paramedic (EMT-P)
- Minimum of three (3) years of service with Sioux City Fire Rescue
- Minimum of one (1) year experience as a Field Training Officer (FTO)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) provider
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) provider
- EMS Instructor or Field Training Officer
- Certified Ambulance Documentation Specialist (CADS)
- Documented successful completion of
ICS 100, 200, 700
- Minimum of (5) years of pre-hospital experience as a Paramedic
- Minimum of (1) year experience as a Field Training Officer (FTO) or equivalent The following must be obtained within six (6) months of the date of hire: CPR Instructor Certified EMS Instructor Field Training Officer (FTO) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Instructor Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

All City employees must reside within thirty (30) miles of Sioux City's jurisdictional limits, within the states of Iowa, Nebraska, or South Dakota, or must comply with this requirement within 180 days from the date of hire.Additional Information:

- Maintains accurate records of EMS certifications, continuing education hours, and training activities in coordination with appropriate staff.
- Ensures training content aligns with current state and national EMS standards, best practices, and applicable regulations.
- Researches, designs, and maintains instructional resources, training aids, and EMS-related equipment to support high-quality education.
- Provides in-service training on new or updated medical equipment, medications, and protocols; assist with product testing and evaluation.
- Facilitates post-incident reviews and case studies to support clinical aspects of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Program.
- Develops training interventions based on CQI trends.
- Manages the department's EMS licensing program, Field Training Evaluation Program (FTEP), and related documentation.
- Delivers monthly EMS education to all personnel and produce summary reports and training materials as required.
- Leads EMS orientation and assist with Fire orientation by providing instruction for new recruits, including treatment protocols, procedures, and equipment operations.
- Maintains compliance with patient care standards, HIPAA requirements, and department policies; provide accurate and timely EMS documentation.
- Develops and manages CPR/AED training for Fire/EMS personnel and community partners.
- Supports community risk-reduction efforts by providing CPR, AED, Narcan, and other EMS-related public education; assist with special events as needed.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of EMS training program, identify performance gaps, and recommend corrective actions.
- Performs maintenance and readiness checks on EMS training equipment, reserve medic units, and associated facilities.
- Responds to emergency medical calls when operational demand requires.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders; attend required meetings and trainings.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including support during declared emergencies or extended operational needs.
- Expected to temporarily perform duties outside of normal classification in the event of a declared emergency.
