Role:
The Advanced EMT (AEMT) plays a critical role in providing high-quality pre-hospital emergency medical care to patients in diverse and often challenging environments across the United States. This position requires the ability to assess patient conditions rapidly, administer advanced life support interventions, and collaborate effectively with other emergency response personnel to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The AEMT is responsible for operating emergency vehicles safely, maintaining medical equipment, and documenting patient care accurately and thoroughly. This role demands a strong commitment to continuous learning and adherence to established medical protocols and regulatory standards. Ultimately, the Advanced EMT serves as a vital link in the emergency medical services chain, delivering timely and skilled care that can significantly impact patient survival and recovery rates.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Advanced EMT certification or licensure in the state of employment. Current CPR certification from an accredited organization such as the American Heart Association. Completion of an accredited Advanced EMT training program. Demonstrated ability to perform advanced airway management, intravenous therapy, and medication administration. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to operate emergency vehicles safely.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a high-volume emergency medical services environment. Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS). Familiarity with electronic patient care reporting (ePCR) systems. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with patients, families, and healthcare teams. Bilingual abilities or experience serving diverse communities.
Responsibilities:
Respond promptly to emergency calls and provide advanced life support care to patients at the scene and during transport to medical facilities. Perform patient assessments, including vital signs monitoring, airway management, and administration of medications as authorized by state protocols. Operate and maintain emergency medical equipment and vehicles in compliance with safety regulations and organizational policies. Document patient care reports accurately and comprehensively, ensuring all medical interventions and observations are recorded. Collaborate with paramedics, emergency medical technicians, hospital staff, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and transfer. Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain certification and stay current with medical advancements and protocols. Adhere strictly to infection control procedures, safety standards, and legal requirements governing emergency medical services.
