Job Description
Overview The Paramedic functions as a primary provider of advanced prehospital emergency medical care and transportation. Working with autonomy, Paramedics are responsible for patient care decisions, scene management, and ensuring high-quality clinical documentation. This position demands critical thinking, physical endurance, and the ability to perform in high-stress environments, often with limited support. Not a remote eligible position Non-Exempt position: Employees must be clocked in and physically present at the assigned station to be considered in work status. Responsibilities Independent Clinical & Operational Functioning Provide unsupervised basic life support (BLS) and advanced life support (ALS) care. Make autonomous decisions during assessment and treatment. Operate in the ambulance independently as either a driver or patient care provider. Perform additional responsibilities as required or assigned by leadership to support departmental operations, patient care initiatives, quality improvement, or organizational goals. Duties may vary depending on emergent needs, operational priorities, or evolving best practices Patient Assessment, Care & Documentation Perform comprehensive assessments. Emergency Medical Care Administer medications, manage airways, and perform IV/IO access and cardiac monitoring. Apply State of New Hampshire Patient Care Protocols, most recent version, for trauma, cardiac, respiratory, and medical emergencies. Non-Emergent/Transfer Medical Care Perform interfacility transports at all patient acuity levels BLS, ALS, PIFT, and SCT. Administer required care as dictated by patient acuity. Accurately document findings and interventions in electronic or paper formats. Utilize the department's designated electronic health record system (e.g., ImageTrend) to accurately document all patient encounters, including refusals and non-transports. Accurately document findings and interventions in electronic or paper formats. Safe Transport of Patients Extricate patients from varied environments including confined spaces and wilderness areas. Ensure safe and comfortable transportation, with continuous patient monitoring. Communication Relay clinical data to medical control and hospital staff. Coordinate via radio and digital communication systems. Equipment & Vehicle Maintenance Perform daily checks of vehicles and equipment. Restock and clean as required. Compliance & Protocol Adherence Follow EMS protocols and maintain licensure as defined by New Hampshire RSA 153-A and Saf-C 5900 rules. Participate in quality assurance programs. Complete all assigned requirements of both the department and the hospital. Professional Conduct Uphold patient and coworker confidentiality and demonstrate compassion at all times. Maintain ethical standards and represent the department professionally to both internal and external stakeholders. Engage in professional conduct that supports a culture of safety, mutual respect, and mental wellness. Coordinate with fire, police, and other healthcare agencies as required. Participate in MCIs, community events, and disaster drills. Qualifications Education & Training Maintain required certifications NREMT-P Emergency Medical Services Provider License
CPR ACLS PALS
Attend training sessions as required Complete required department training/competenciesPosition Requirements Licensure/Certification:
NREMT-Paramedic or equivalent state licensure, ACLS, PALS, BLS; CCP-C or FP-C preferred.Experience:
At least 2 years of ALS field experience preferred.Education:
High school diploma/GED required; associate degree or higher preferred.Other:
Must have an unrestricted driver's license; clean driving record.Physical Requirements Lifting:
Must be able to lift 100 lbs. or more.Mobility:
No restrictions on grip strength, bending, climbing stairs, including moving up or down them backwards, or maneuvering equipment/patients in challenging environments.Stamina:
Must perform prolonged physical activities and maintain alertness during long shifts or stressful scenarios. Cognitive, Vision, Hearing, and Speech Requirements Ability to rapidly assess a variety of situations, make appropriate decisions applicable to state protocols, departmental policies etc.Vision:
Must have corrected or uncorrected vision sufficient to drive, read monitors, medication labels, and navigate challenging environments.Hearing:
Adequate hearing to detect alarms, communicate with dispatch and partners, and respond to emergency signals.Speech:
Clear and articulate verbal communication to coordinate with patients, families, and interagency personnel. Required Licensure/CertificationsREQUIRED LICENSE
