POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), the ER Paramedic is accountable for providing service that are within the scope of the ER Paramedic's State Paramedic Certification without physician supervision and direction and is responsible for implementing technical procedures and care to Emergency Room patients safely and effectively. Any service provided directly to a patient must be pursuant to protocols, procedures and policies of DHR Health and pursuant to an Emergency Provider's order and in accordance with the applicable standard of care and the requirements of this Job Description. The ER Paramedic works with all levels of ER staff ensuring the consistent application of medical care practices. Works closely with ER leadership.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS
Associates degree preferred Current certification/Licensure in the State of Texas as a Paramedic. EMT-P required. FP-C or CCP-C is preferred. Current BLS Healthcare Provider required. ACLS Provider required within six (6) months of hire. PALS Provider required within six (6) months of hire. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
Knowledge/understanding of Paramedic standards of care within regulations. Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services. Two (2) years of experience as a field Paramedic within a busy 911 agency and/or clinical experience working in a hospital. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other medical personnel, victims and family. Read, write and communicate professionally and effectively with co-workers and leaders. Write reports Computer skills required to include the use Electronic Medical Records software as well as Microsoft Office Knowledge of State, Federal, and Joint Commission regulations.
Responsibilities:
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides pre-hospital and intra-hospital advanced life support care from initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the ER nursing/physician•maintaining through patient care documentation. Obtains information from persons involved, examines patients, and determines nature, extent or magnitude of illness or injury to establish emergency medical procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance. Communicates with ER nursing/physician personnel to obtain instructions regarding treatment and to arrange for medical treatment. Lifts, carries and transports injured, sick or incapacitated persons. Administers prescribed first-aid treatment or in specialty equipment in alignment with medical protocols. Applies splints, administers oxygen or artificial resuscitation; treats and bandages wounds or abrasions; and performs other basic life support procedures. Stabilizes, immobilizes, lifts and moves patients from once area of care to another. Inspects specialty equipment, cleans equipment to ensure safe operation, and replenishes medical supplies. Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:
The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents. C.
Occupational Exposure:
This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way. D.
