Job Description

This 8-week Emergency Medical Services (EMS) internship is part of the Texas Initiative Grant, offered in partnership with Workforce Solutions Golden Crescent and Victoria College. Designed for students in their final semester of the VC AEMT Level 1 Certificate, Paramedic Level 2 Certificate, or EMT Associate of Applied Science program, this internship provides immersive, hands-on clinical experience under the supervision of experienced emergency medical professionals. This opportunity helps students transition to EMT professional after graduation by enhancing clinical judgment, communication, and technical emergency medicine skills. Work location to be determined. To participate, students must meet Texas Internship Initiative Grant eligibility criteria. Selected interns will receive a stipend from Victoria College to support transportation, childcare, and tuition/fees. Student interns will be in unpaid internship positions for the Employer and will not be paid by the Employer nor be considered employees of the Employer. Assist with first response scenarios for patients, providing Basic Life Support, such as
CPR, AED
usage, and oxygen administration; Participate in the administration of emergency medicine protocols under supervision; Observe and support patient assessment and trauma care, such as bleeding control or splinting; Follow infection prevention, patient safety, and HIPAA protocols; Assist in reviewing and updating patient care records in the electronic health record (EHR) system; Other duties as assigned by the preceptor or supervisor.
INTERN LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Apply classroom knowledge to clinical situations in a supervised healthcare environment. Gain hands-on experience with emergency medical equipment, patient assessment, and patient life support. Understand the role of emergency medical professionals in acute and chronic care settings. Strengthen professional communication with health care teams and patients. Develop confidence and competence in preparation for board exams and licensure. Currently enrolled in the final semester of the AEMT L1 Cert, Paramedic L2 Cert, or EMT AAS program at Victoria College. Strong knowledge of emergency medical fundamentals and care protocols. Effective communication, empathy, and professionalism in clinical settings. Ability to use electronic health records and follow detailed procedures. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Liability insurance. Additional information will be provided to selected students to purchase coverage with their stipend before the internship start date.
GRANT ELIGIBILITY
To qualify for this grant funded internship opportunity, students must provide the following completed forms which will be sent after the application is received: Income Verification Applicant Schedule Stipend Questionnaire For male applicants, verification of Selective Service registration The intern must be able to perform physical tasks typical of a hospital environment, including standing, walking, and assisting patients for extended periods. This role may require lifting or repositioning patients and handling medical equipment. Interns must have the dexterity to perform clinical tasks and respond quickly to patient needs or emergencies. The ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and work in a fast-paced clinical setting is required.
