Job Description:
This position is responsible for providing both basic and advanced life support to patients in an efficient, knowledgeable and cost effective manner, which is accurately documented and properly coordinated with other health care personnel. Scope As an Ambulance Paramedic you need to know how to: Be responsible for the delivery of high quality emergency medical care to the sick and injured in the pre-hospital setting
  • Be able to interact in a positive, professional manner with co-workers, other emergency service agencies, patients, family members and the general public
  • Provide patient care under protocols set by the agency's Medical Director and be responsible for knowing and accurately carrying out these protocols
  • Be able to quickly assess life-threatening situations and provide appropriate advanced life support intervention for these conditions
  • Perform procedures including: the placement of intravenous lines, intubation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, 3 lead and 12 lead EKG interpretation, defibrillation, chest decompression and medication administration
  • Possess a broad based knowledge of emergency medicine including both basic and advanced life support and a strong understanding of the appropriate pharmacological intervention in life threatening situations
  • Assure ambulances are fully stocked and ready for service at the start of each shift, assuring all equipment is in good working order Assure assigned ambulance engine fluid levels are appropriate for safe operation, all vehicle lights and audible/visual warning devices are functioning at the beginning of each shift
  • Safely drive and operate the ambulance
  • Be vigilant towards scene safety and follow all ambulance service guidelines regarding personal safety
Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
Colorado Paramedic License
  • within 120 days of hire Completion of Paramedic course Nationally Registered EMT-Paramedic, required within one year of employment Current BLS certification endorsed by the American Heart Association Current ACLS certification Current PEPP certification for ALS providers or PALS Certification Must be at least 21 years of age to operate department vehicles
Preferred:
At least one (1) year of field experience Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies
  • and•Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations•and•Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy.
This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc
  • and•Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients.
Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items
  • and•Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment.
This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc)
  • and•May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
