Job Description Job Description Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking to hire a Patient Educator Senior Manager - WEST to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will reside in one of these metropolitan areas: Los Angeles or San Francisco metro areas. This is a field based role and candidates must currently reside in the Western Region of the United States. This Patient Educator will report to the Director, Patient Educators and is responsible for providing people living and affected by sickle cell disease (SCD) and beta thalassemia (BT) with education, tools, and resources that help them have meaningful discussions with their healthcare providers. This team will also provide information about Vertex Gene Therapy. Patient Educators will contribute to the U.S. local market strategy, and coordinate/execute the patient/caregiver tactical plan. This individual will have a strong passion for supporting patients, their families, and caregivers and helping them understand and successfully navigate and engage within complex healthcare landscapes. They will thrive in an environment of rapid change; demonstrate effective communication; work effectively across multiple cross-functional teams; and have a patient-first, problem-solving, and analytical mindset. The successful candidate will have the courage to ask, "how might we?" and "why?" and an ability to successfully challenge the status quo to provide innovative and compliant solutions to complex healthcare challenges. Key Responsibilities Execute the commercial brand strategy and tactical plan within a specified local market in coordination with Marketing and Advocacy teams, among others. Participate in territory/division/regional planning and provide input into local market decisions and resource needs. Provide group & 1:1 education to patients, caregivers, and advocacy organizations on SCD/TDT and Vertex's gene therapy at live programs, conferences, walks using approved materials Conduct community and patient educational needs assessments and provide feedback/insights on existing patient education and resources. Provide insights that inform marketing team strategies and development of patient marketing materials that address patient and Vertex objectives. Maintain deep understanding of SCD and TDT disease states, patient experience, barriers, and care pathways Document interactions appropriately and compliantly and model Vertex values. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred, with 6+ years of relevant experience in clinical care, healthcare or patient education, social services, and/or the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry 2+ years of field-based biopharmaceutical experience preferred Experience with or knowledge of rare diseases, including sickle cell disease and/or thalassemia, preferred Ability to build deeply trusted relationships with patients and caregivers, providing education that is empathetic, accessible, and meaningful Strong communication skills, including compelling presentation delivery and clear, effective written communication Ability to work independently while partnering seamlessly across cross-functional teams and with external stakeholders Demonstrated track record of delivering results and advancing priorities in alignment with shared goals Comfort operating in ambiguity, navigating complexity, and developing thoughtful, patient-focused solutions Strong organizational and project management capabilities, with the ability to prioritize and execute effectively in a dynamic environment Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, and a strong commitment to acting in accordance with compliance and ethical standards Ability to travel up to 70%, including some weekends, to support patient and community-facing programs and events Strong digital fluency and comfort using a broad range of technology platforms and tools to support day-to-day work
Pay Range:
$136,000 - $204,000

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
