Job Description

The Patient Advocate will review insurance benefits with patients, assist with payment arrangements, help them to understand and enroll in assistance programs, and communicate billing policies and procedures. This position is a 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week)
Duties/Responsibilities:
Reviews insurance benefits with patient. Assesses patient ability to pay out-of-pocket costs and define a course of action to secure payment terms prior to treatment according to clinic guidelines Reviews patient accounts with upcoming appointments Creates payment arrangements with patients who are unable to pay balance in full Reviews patient accounts to determine if balance is accurate, determine if the patient qualifies for a drug assistance program or may need to make payment arrangements Enrolls patients in appropriate foundations or drug assistance programs Follow up with foundations, assistance programs, insurance companies and patients as needed regarding concerns with the processing of claims, payment of the account or appeals Must have a thorough understanding of billing policies and options available for reimbursement of services Communicates billing policies and procedures with patients and staff Develops and/or distributes brochures or other printed materials to share information with patients and staff Maintains and develops knowledge of resources available to patients and refer patients to them as needed Other duties as defined by the Team Lead and/or
Business Office Manager Education and Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent required Experience in a medical office setting strongly preferred Experience working with insurance companies is strongly preferred OSMS offers a comprehensive benefits package to all full-time employees including Health Insurance, Dental Insurance, Vision Insurance, Life Insurance and Disability Insurance and an EAP.
