Job Description

Monitors and facilitates patient transports throughout the Radiology department and with the nursing staff. Provides an additional presence of leadership within the department. Assist with supervisory duties (scheduling, timekeeping, etc.) and acts in the supervisor's absence. Regularly check equipment and supplies reporting shortages, repairs, or needs. Assists and help oversee department projects, as directed by the supervisor. Responsible for completing patient transports and patient related items in a safe and timely manner, maintain clean equipment, interact politely and professionally with patients, guests and allied health staff. Abides by HIPPA regulations. Functions independently and as a team member. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the safe operation of multiple types of motorized patient transport equipment. Must have knowledge and ability to use all safe patient transfer devices and equipment. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in connecting and disconnecting oxygen supply, pulse oximetry, blood pressure cuff, and ECG cardiac monitoring to the patient. Must have knowledge on preparing various patient transport attachments/equipment (intravenous pumps, ventilators, oxygen tanks, wound vacuums, LVADs, portable suction machine). Must be able to demonstrate competency in assisting Radiology Technologist in positioning patients for MRI, CT, and General Diagnostic radiographic exams per protocol. Must have knowledge of MRI safe transport equipment (including stretchers, wheelchairs, and MRI safe intravenous pumps). Must demonstrate knowledge of all medical isolation precautions and protocols including proper sanitation of equipment after each patient use. High School Graduate or G.E.D Equivalent. Associate degree preferred. One year of hospital, clinical, or patient care experience required. Requires excellent communication skills, telephone and human relation skills to interact with patients, guests and staff. Basic computer skills are required. Must be able to adapt to unpredictable and stressful situations, while maintaining a calm and pleasant demeanor. Must be able to demonstrate exceptional initiative and a proven ability to quickly respond to patient needs in a fast-paced work environment. Must be able to complete Mayo Clinic's New Employee Orientation and General Systems Training. Must be able to frequently lift 50 pounds unassisted and lift more than 50 pounds with assistance.
