Transport Aide Watauga Medical Center • Central Patient Transport Boone, NC Non-Clinical Service Part-time (8-19 hours per week), Days & Weekends, Varies, 7a-7p Req # 12935 Transport Aide
Location:
Boone, North Carolina | Part-time | Day shift varies Why You'll Love Working Here As a Transport Aide at UNC Health Appalachian, you will play a vital role in supporting patient care by ensuring safe, timely transportation throughout the facility. You will interact directly with patients and families while contributing to a positive and compassionate care experience.
Compensation:
Starting pay begins at $16.00 /hour, based on experience, education, and internal equity
Schedule:
Variable shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays

Comprehensive medical/dental/vision coverage, retirement with employer match, PTO, tuition reimbursement, paid parental leave, wellness incentives, and employee discounts What You'll Do as a Transport Aide Safely transport patients to and from diagnostic testing, procedures, inpatient units, and discharge areas Assist patients in and out of beds, wheelchairs, and vehicles using proper equipment (stretchers, slide boards, lifts) Support patient check-in and discharge processes Communicate effectively with transport dispatch, nursing, and clinical teams Ensure patient safety, dignity, and comfort throughout transport Assist with non-clinical equipment handling while following safety protocols Monitor lobby and parking areas to support patients and visitors Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred (not required)
Experience:
Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
CPR Certification (may be obtained upon hire)
Skills & Abilities:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately Basic reading, writing, and counting skills Demonstrated teamwork, reliability, and customer service Physical capability to perform demanding tasks Physical & Work Environment Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling (up to and exceeding 300 lbs with equipment) Prolonged standing, walking, and occasional sitting throughout shifts Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, and reaching Continuous hand, finger, and wrist dexterity Frequent patient mobilization and physical assistance Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens and healthcare hazards Exposure to electrical/mechanical equipment, chemicals, and uneven surfaces Irregular hours including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and emergencies What Sets Us Apart
