GENERAL SUMMARY
: Assists departmental staff by greeting, escorting, ambulating or transporting inpatients and outpatients. Cleans transportation equipment. Communicates with hospital staff and patients to ensure appropriate destination and timeliness.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Follows hospital and departmental procedures to ensure safe transportation of patients, records and equipment. 3. Assists with the general maintenance, cleanliness, and overall safety of the department and equipment. 4.
  • Verifies accurate patient identification; maintains patient confidentiality. 5.
  • Interacts properly with hospital personnel, medical staff, patients, family and others. 6.
  • Directs phone calls to appropriate personnel utilizing proper phone etiquette. 7.
  • Retrieves and restocks supplies as needed. 8.
  • Supports technical staff and/or students with moving and accompanying patients to ensure patient safety and educate on transporting duties. 9.
  • Follows procedures for patient use of oxygen and competently manages transportation of patients with various tubes, catheters and oxygen tanks which may be monitored by a licensed healthcare professional as necessary. 10.
  • Notifies Coordinator or Manager in a timely manner of any needed equipment repairs or problems.
11. Disposes of soiled linen and may restock clean linen in dressing/exam rooms. 12. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. 13. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of Medical Center layout and patient transport routes. 2. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions. 3. Knowledge of portable oxygen systems for patient use. 4. Ability to safely transport patients, records and equipment. 5. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 6. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes. 7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff. 8. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills. 9. Ability to maintain annual competency in transporting diverse patients throughout the age continuum. 10. Ability to exercise courtesy and professionalism in receiving office callers and visitors. 11. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information. 12. Ability to practice proper body mechanics to ensure personal and patient safety. 13. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision. 14. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
: High school diploma or equivalency preferred. Any combination of education and experience, which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities identified above will be considered.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS
: Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
: (Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.) (DOT) - Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
