SUMMARY:
Transports child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients to and from all areas/departments requiring patient transport, using wheelchairs and stretchers. RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains current CPR certification. Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities. Utilizes SBAR hand-off report sheet when transporting patients from unit to unit.

Informs nursing staff of the patient leaving the nursing unit and confirms mode of transportation. Obtains the patient's chart from the nursing units for those procedures where appropriate. Greets patient, verifies patient's identification (name & date of birth) and checks patient Identiband. Informs the patient of where he/she is being transported. Assists the patients into wheelchairs or onto stretchers, utilizing appropriate equipment to meet individual and age specific needs

  • Adolescent, adult, geriatric Assures the patients are properly dressed in hospital gowns for test and/or procedures prior to leaving the nursing units.
Returns the patient to room following completion of procedure or examination, informing appropriate staff. Informs nursing personnel immediately of any change in the patient's condition. Demonstrates use of hospital approved paging system. Responds to pages in a timely manner. Responds to outlying areas for RRT or Code Blue with a stretcher. Makes and delivers special order food trays for patients on the evening shift. Monitors IV pumps to ensure proper operation and informs nursing personnel if not functioning properly. Handles urinary drainage bags properly while transporting patients. Assures adequate supply of oxygen during transport. Replaces filled oxygen tanks to units as needed. Checks wheelchairs and stretchers for maintenance issues and brings them to the Facilities work room. Cleans transport equipment after each use with hospital-approved environmental cleaner. Assists others with a difficult transport via smooth movers where lifting help is required. Assures that the patient's side rails are raised on stretchers at all times. Assures the patient's feet are placed securely on foot pedals when in wheelchairs. Transports patients to Outpatient areas (Borden-Carey, Wound Clinic, IV Therapy, etc.).Delivers reports, supplies, films, specimens, etc. throughout the hospital as requested.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Current CPR certification. High School Diploma or Equivalent. Requires the ability to read, write and follow specific instruction.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit 1-3 hours, stand and walk 3-7 hours per day, lift 25-50 lbs with good body mechanics, twist and bend infrequently with a workload capacity of 3-5 Mets (see chart). Must be able to use both hand/wrists and perform work with moderate deviation and occasional fine motor skills. Far and near vision must be accurate at 20/40, accurate depth perception, discriminate among red, green and white and hear a whisper at 8 feet.
