Job Description
This recruitment will remain open until a sufficient number of applications are received. The City reserves the right to limit the applications to the first 30 applicants. You are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. The City of Norwalk is seeking an enthusiastic individual to fill a Recreation Leader I position in the Social Services Department. This is a part-time, at-will hourly position that averages approximately 20 hours per week. The Recreation Leader I will assist in delivering recreation programs, participate in organizing and conducting special events, and perform related duties as required. Depending on assignment, essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Assist with serving meals to residents as part of the Senior Nutrition Program when assigned to Social Services Organizes, conducts and supervises free play and team activities of adults and children in outdoor and indoor play areas. Officiates and instructs in games; teaches fundamentals of play and sports conduct in recreational activities; organizes and conducts non-athletic events and programs. Instructs and supervises in arts and crafts and day care programs; organizes club activities; keeps records and prepares written reports. Supervises overall activities of playground or other sites; observes and monitors activities of participants to ensure that park rules and regulations are followed; administers first aid as needed. Maintains dressing room areas and checks in and out customer clothing; cleans pool areas and recreation facilities including rooms, floors and restrooms.
Knowledge of:
the programs common to recreation, sports, and aquatics programs; first aid techniques.Ability to:
supervise and monitor games and team activities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, participants, instructors, and the general public; follow oral instructions. Education and/or Experience Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary.Example combinations include:
Some experience and participation in team or individual sports, or serving as a leader or volunteer in organizations such as scouting, AYSO, Little League, or recreation departments. Special Requirements Must be at least 16 years of age and in the eleventh grade or higher. The City of Norwalk requires a tuberculosis test.SELECTION PROCESS
