Rec Leader at our James Rolph Jr. Park Clubhouse Join Mariposa Kids as a Recreation Leader where you'll partake in our After-School Program, Summer Camp and Holiday Camps serving children ages 5-11 in the Mission District of San Francisco, and our toddler play groups for children ages 2-5. Rec Leaders fill shifts scheduled across programs, including select state & federal holidays. Rec Leaders will also supervise and engage in play at lunch recess at our partner school. School year schedule will be Mon-Fri from 11a-6p (and some 930a-6p shifts). Approximately 32 hours a week.
ABOUT MARIPOSA KIDS
- Mariposa Kids is a 501c(3) non-profit with the mission to support and inspire children's natural curiosity and independence through free play during their out-of-school time. We envision vibrant communities that support the social emotional growth of all children through friendship and play. Built upon the three pillars of providing SAFE SPACES, opportunities for FREE PLAY, and building a sense of COMMUNITY, Mariposa Kids centers the experience of children in all of our work and have been doing so for over 10 years. Out of the clubhouse on the James Rolph Jr. Park & Playground, Mariposa Kids provides 40 children in grades TK-5 with After-School on every SFUSD school day from the moment school releases until 6pm. Our Summer Camps run for an average of 8 weeks from June to August, serving an average of 28 children each week. Our high quality out-of-school time programming works to maintain small adult to child ratios and prides itself in ensuring children have ample outdoor time, as well as fun and engaging activities inside.
REC LEADERS
Rec Leaders at Mariposa Kids work to ensure children experience a safe and engaging environment for free play with other children. Key functions of the role of Recreation Leaders include: Room management (12:1 or 8:1 ratios depending on age group of children) Leading planned activities Supervising lunch recess at our partner elementary school and engaging kids in activities during recess Supporting children's social emotional growth and interactions with others Upholding our norms & expectations for all children and adults in the space Participating in outdoor activities with children and supervising playgrounds Keeping facilities clean and organized through daily operation tasks Building trusting relationships with parents/caregivers Support our Children & Family Coordinator in our toddler play groups Valuable skills, abilities, and experience include: Working with children ages 5-11 Understanding child development, education principles, and behavioral management Multi-tasking & initiative taking Patience Develop and maintain relationships with children, fellow staff, and families Work in diverse and inclusive settings Pursuing or holding a degree centered in education, child development, health, or non-profit management
Benefits:

Physical Ability:
Requirements include strength, mobility, stamina to climb, bend, stretch, stand, kneel, walk, stoop, extend legs, and stamina to lift, carry, push or pull objects, which weigh 40 pounds. Ability to reach horizontally and vertically with arms. Physical ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 30% walking or active, and 50% standing.
