) Mark Green Sports Center | City of Union City Union City, California The Mark Green Sports Center is seeking motivated, professional, and community-oriented Personal Trainers and Fitness Instructors to join our team. This opportunity is ideal for fitness professionals who enjoy working with a diverse population and are passionate about helping people improve their health, fitness, confidence, and quality of life. Unlike many commercial fitness facilities, our trainers are not responsible for membership sales or sales quotas. The Sports Center helps promote personal training services, assists with client intake and scheduling, and matches members with trainers based on availability, goals, and expertise. Whether you're an experienced trainer with an established clientele or a newer fitness professional looking to grow your business, the Mark Green Sports Center provides facility access, community visibility, administrative support, and client referrals to help you succeed. As a trainer and instructor, you'll have the opportunity to work with a wide range of participants including beginners, active older adults, youth, athletes, weight loss clients, and individuals seeking to improve their overall wellness.
ABOUT THE MARK GREEN SPORTS CENTER
The Mark Green Sports Center is a full-service community fitness and recreation facility serving Union City and the surrounding communities. The Mark Green Sports Center is a Union City Community & Recreation Services facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Conduct one-on-one personal training sessions Design individualized exercise programs based on client goals, abilities, and fitness levels Perform fitness assessments and track participant progress Teach proper exercise technique and safe equipment usage Motivate and encourage clients in a positive and supportive manner Maintain professional communication with clients and Sports Center staff Complete required training documentation and session records Lead group exercise classes when qualified Assist with specialty fitness programs, workshops, and community wellness initiatives Uphold all Sports Center policies, procedures, and safety standards Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for participants of all backgrounds and fitness levels
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Current NCCA-accredited Personal Training Certification (NASM, ACE, ACSM, NSCA, ISSA, or equivalent) Current CPR/AED Certification Strong communication and customer service skills Ability to work independently and professionally Ability to safely demonstrate exercises and movement patterns Ability to meet all contractor onboarding requirements prior to beginning services
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, or related field Experience working in a recreation, community, wellness, or healthcare setting Experience with special populations and older adults Additional specialty certifications Group Fitness Instructor certification or experience Bilingual abilities are a plus
COMPENSATION & GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES
This is an independent contractor position.
Compensation :
$35 per personal training session $35 per group exercise class taught Additional earning opportunities may include: Small group personal training sessions Specialty fitness workshops Fee-based fitness classes Educational wellness programs Community health initiatives Approved fee-based programs may qualify for a 60% instructor revenue share based on participant enrollment and program structure. Group exercise instructors may also have opportunities for increased compensation over time based on experience, certifications, class demand, and program growth.
POSITION STRUCTURE
This is a contracted position and does not include guaranteed hours. Client volume varies based on member demand and trainer availability. The Mark Green Sports Center actively promotes personal training services and fitness programs to its membership base and community. Sports Center staff assist with client inquiries, intake requests, scheduling coordination, and trainer-client matching. Trainers have opportunities to increase earnings through small group training, specialty programs, workshops, and group exercise instruction.
REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO CONTRACT APPROVAL
Selected applicants must be able to provide or obtain the following prior to beginning services: Current NCCA-accredited Personal Training Certification Current CPR/AED Certification Successful completion of a background check coordinated through the City of Union City Current Tuberculosis (TB) clearance/test Valid City of Union City Business License Professional General Liability Insurance Applicants who do not currently possess all required documents are encouraged to apply if they are willing and able to obtain them prior to providing services. City staff will assist selected contractors through the onboarding process and provide guidance regarding required documentation.
