Description Benefits Questions Description of Work This is an entry-level support position responsible for assisting in the promotion and execution of community events and marketing activities at the Norwalk Recreation Center. Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Center Manager, the incumbent assists with event logistics, creates basic promotional materials, and helps manage the center's social media presence according to established guidelines. Work is carried out under close supervision and does not involve independent decision-making on program direction or communications strategy. This role is well-suited for individuals pursuing studies or early experience in recreation, communications, marketing, or a related field, and who have a comfort level with social media and basic design tools.
General Duties:
Assists in the setup, coordination, and breakdown of special events and community programs as directed by the Recreation Center Manager. Work closely with the Sports and Activity Recreation Leader to develop marketing and promotion slogans and Collateral materials for Center Activities, programs and Special Events Creates fliers, social media posts, and other basic promotional materials using tools such as Canva or similar software, following templates and guidelines provided by supervisory staff. Posts content to the center's social media accounts (e.g., Instagram, Facebook) as assigned; does not independently set communications strategy. Helps distribute promotional materials within the center and community as directed. Assists with event check-in, participant registration, and volunteer coordination during programs. Takes photos or short videos at events for use in promotional content, as assigned. Assists in tracking basic event attendance and social media engagement; compiles information for supervisor review. Helps maintain community board, TV display areas, and other in-facility communications as directed. Follow up on faculty rental requests, and application, Confirming the Rental and Coordinating them with the Caterers and equipment providers Supports with cross-promotional and logistical tasks during joint events. In down times assist with supervision of Center assisting staff in maintaining an active, safe, orderly healthy environment in the Center Performs related duties as required.
Supervised By:
Recreation Center Manager and/or their designee Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic knowledge of or interest in social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook) and their use for community engagement. Familiarity with basic graphic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Express. Ability to follow oral and written instructions from supervisory staff. Ability to write clearly and simply for fliers, captions, and announcements under supervisory guidance. Ability to interact professionally with community members, volunteers, and center staff. Ability to assist with event logistics including setup, registration, and breakdown tasks. Ability to manage assigned tasks reliably, meet deadlines, and ask for guidance when needed. Ability to work cooperatively as part of a small team. Reliability, punctuality, creativity, and a positive attitude toward community service Minimum Qualifications One (1) recreation season or three (3) months of paid or volunteer experience assisting with events, marketing, social media, recreation programming, or a related activity; OR Current enrollment in or completion of coursework in Recreation, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field at an accredited college or university; OR An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (1) and (2) above.

This is a part-time, on-site position located in Norwalk, Connecticut. The position is scheduled for up to 19.5 hours per week.
