Excellence. Community Timuquana Country Club is a traditional private club located on the banks of the St. John's River in Jacksonville, Florida. Open six days a week, 12 months per year, the 103 year-old, member-owned club has 1,100 member families. Facilities include a 50,000 square foot clubhouse including three member dining areas and private function rooms, large outdoor event and recreation lawn, wrap around patio, floating dock, 18-hole Donald Ross golf course, golf practice facility, eight outdoor tennis courts, fitness center with group exercise studio, locker rooms with dry saunas, and a resort style, heated zero entry swimming pool overlooking the St. John's River. The Club is in the process of completing its next phase of its facility master plan; the Golf Performance Center and Pickleball Facility set to open May 2026. Job Summary:
Timuquana Country Club is seeking an Aqua Instructor . An aqua instructor at Timuquana Country Club is responsible for providing exceptional aquatic fitness instruction and member service to the Club's members, their families, and guests. The essential job duties include leading safe, engaging, and effective water-based group exercise classes, adapting instruction for varying fitness levels and abilities, monitoring pool safety, and helping create a welcoming aquatics environment. The ideal candidate is energetic, knowledgeable in aquatic exercise methods, and confident in cueing, class management, and member engagement.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities, and Expectations:
(Other duties may be assigned) Lead safe, effective, and engaging aqua fitness classes tailored to a range of member ages, abilities, and fitness levels. Demonstrate and cue aquatic exercises clearly, offering modifications and progressions to support participant safety, comfort, and results. Monitor class participants and pool conditions at all times, reinforcing water safety practices and responding appropriately to incidents or emergencies. Prepare class plans that align with aquatics programming goals, including warm-up, cardiovascular conditioning, strength, flexibility, and cool-down components. Ensure the pool deck, equipment, and instructional areas are clean, organized, and ready for class use before and after each session. Build positive relationships with members by encouraging participation, answering questions, and promoting aquatics programs and seasonal offerings. Maintain all required certifications and remain current on aquatic fitness trends, safety standards, and best practices. Accurately track class attendance, communicate scheduling updates as needed, and collaborate with the fitness and aquatics team to enhance member experience.
Ideal Qualifications, Abilities, and Principles:
Must have a valid Driver's License. Must be able to speak and write English. Must be professional in manner and appearance and have excellent communication skills. Ability to work as a team member and be able to enjoy working with people. Must have good judgment and attention to detail. Positive attitude about people, position, co-workers and employer. Has genuine care for seeing others happy. Qualifications Demonstrates a friendly, professional demeanor with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Passionate about helping others achieve their health and fitness goals. Minimum of 1-3 years of professional experience teaching aqua fitness, group exercise, or related aquatic programming, ideally within a hospitality, wellness, or private club setting. Experience working with diverse participants and adapting classes to varying ability levels is preferred. Dependable, collaborative, and committed to maintaining high standards of service and professionalism. Education & Certifications High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or training in exercise science, kinesiology, aquatics, recreation, or a related field preferred. Must hold a current aqua fitness, group exercise, or water exercise certification from a recognized organization such as: AFAA Aquatic Exercise ACE Group Fitness Instructor Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA) certification YMCA, WaterArt, or other nationally recognized aquatic fitness credentials Current CPR/AED certification required; First Aid certification required and lifeguard certification preferred, depending on program needs. Willingness to pursue additional specialty certifications as needed, such as: Senior fitness or arthritis-focused aquatic programming certifications Water safety instruction Lifeguarding or aquatic facility safety credentials Group fitness or specialty movement certifications that complement aquatic instruction

Availability:
Part-time position with a flexible schedule based on programming needs; availability for weekdays, weekends, and holidays may be required. Aqua classes are currently scheduled two times per week , with shift length and schedule subject to change.
Estimated Base Pay Range:
Compensation is in line with current independent contractor pay at $50 per class.
