Job Description

The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled/professional work to teach the Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) pre-school program and implement a program of recreational activities at Max Hasse Community Park. Organizes, sets up and instructs fitness programs and activities; supervises fitness activities; resolves differences that may arise during play. Enforces safety rules and guidelines. Greets the public at the front desk; answers the telephone; gives information over the phone and in person; receives and documents fees; balances cash drawer. Participates in short- and long-range planning. Supervises all aspects of special events; assists with clean-up after the event. Assists with contracts, special events, and other information needed to run programs. Issues equipment; ensures cleanliness and operability of equipment. Prepares and maintains logs and reports of daily activities; prepares forms for registration; registers participants; prepares attendance sheets; files program information. Opens and closes the recreation building; checks buildings; reports any maintenance problems; maintains order in the building; checks keys in and out. Makes copies; keeps files in order; writes work orders; maintains computerized databases; prepares bulletin board and flyers. Sets up room for activity; cleans and prepares rooms for programs; loads and unloads tables and chairs. Attends meetings. Purchases and inventories supplies and equipment for programs; cleans and organizes supply closets. Performs minor maintenance on equipment. Ensures cleanliness of the work area. Other duties may be required and assigned. In the event of a declared state of emergency, employees in this classification may be called to work during days or hours other than those for which they are regularly scheduled. Plans and provides for the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of the children in a developmentally appropriate environment, using an approved curriculum. Plans and implements the approved curriculum; observes, records, and documents children's progress; maintains all files per the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) and Early Learning Coalition standards; acts as a positive role model for children. Provides for the health, safety, and welfare of the children by maintaining a clean environment, taking appropriate action when accidents or illnesses occur, and encourages and teaches hygiene, good eating habits, and manners. Works cooperatively as a team and communicates openly and effectively with co-workers and supervisor; encourages family involvement in the program, communicates daily with parents in a professional and courteous manner, and takes part in parent conferences. High school diploma or GED; one (1) year of experience in the parks and recreation field. Must possess and maintain certifications in CPR and First Aid. May require the possession and maintenance of a valid Florida driver's license with any applicable endorsements and maintain eligibility requirements and endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in
CMA 5805.
Fingerprinting required. Must possess and maintain a Child Development Associates (CDA) certification. Must possess and maintain infant/child CPR/First Aid Certification. Must successfully complete the Emergent Literacy training course within ninety (90) days from date of hire or promotion. Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications. Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County's Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
