Job Description
The City of Seminole is seeking a responsible, professional individual to assist with front-desk operations, athletics leagues, esports, facility rentals, special events, and general recreation tasks. These tasks include but are not limited to program registration, customer service, and updating roster, set up/break down of rooms. This position will assist with major athletic leagues, including Youth Basketball; and will also be responsible for leading athletic programs, including the Track & Field program. This position will work primarily evening and Saturday hours, and will be responsible for closing the Recreation Center. Duties involve a variety of tasks which require the application of independent judgment, creative thinking, and administrative knowledge and skills. During occasions of local emergencies, this position shall be required to perform emergency tasks which may result in extended work hours as well as extended periods of time away from family members. The salary range is $14.46 to $21.69/hour. Anticipated hiring rate of pay $14.46 - $15.00/hour. A background investigation and a drug screen will be conducted on the successful candidate. Keeps records of equipment assigned to area or facility; issues recreational equipment to participants. Deals frequently with the public, tactfully and diplomatically. Enforces rules and regulations of the Recreation Department to maintain order and discipline among participants. Leads and coordinates groups in organized recreational activities at an assigned facility and with specific programs. Maintains attendance records of participants to assigned programs. Assists in the overall recreation and leisure function by making sure equipment is available and set up properly. Assists in conducting recreational tournaments and other sports programs. Assists the general public by providing information regarding the various programs and services provided by the Recreation Department. Opens, closes, or secures a facility; takes all precautions to maintain participants safety. Maintains assigned recreation area or facility, including set up and break down of equipment and performing minor custodial services as required. May direct and/or supervise recreation leisure programs such as games, sports, music, dancing, arts and crafts, nature activities, camping, informal group activities, pre-school programs, summer camp activities, etc. Prepares reports as may be required by the Recreation Director. Adheres to established guidelines for purposes of preventing/minimizing injuries and accidents. Investigates and reports accidents as required by established policies and procedures. Greets the public in a courteous manner, both in person and on the telephone, and answers questions and provides information as appropriate. May prepare arts and crafts projects for special events. May assist with the preparation and maintenance of publicity materials such as flyers and bulletin boards throughout the Recreation Department facility. Strives to maximize effective communications with all personnel within the Department as well as the general public. Performs other job-related duties as consistent with the position.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalent diploma. Must be eighteen (18) years of age minimum. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public. Ability to work with school age children and adults. Knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, and equipment requirements of recreation and leisure programs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, participants, and the general public. Knowledge of community needs and resources for recreational and leisure programs and activities. Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing a variety of recreational games, programs, and activities. Ability to meet deadlines and implement several programs simultaneously. Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally. Ability to work independently in the implementation and conducting programs and services, within established Departmental and City Policies and Procedures. Ability to think clearly and use independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations that may occur.
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:
Ability to obtain certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED within the first six (6) months of employment. A seasonal, temporary employee must obtain certification within the first week of the assigned programs. Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License. Ability to pass a rigid background investigation as required by the City and Florida Department of Children and Families.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing. Ability to utilize a computer keyboard or a computer. Ability to perform light to heavy lifting up to 45lbs and to perform some custodial duties at the assigned facilities. Performance of duties requires frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, pulling, and reaching.
Working Conditions:
Performs administrative and supervisory work in both office environment and outside in varying and inclement weather conditions at Recreation facilities and City-sponsored events. Standards for

The image that the City of Seminole projects to the public is reflected in the appearance of our employees. Simply stated, employees should look clean, neat, well-groomed and should be dressed safely and appropriately for the work they will be doing. Other visible body piercings, including but not limited to: nose piercings, gauges, lip piercings, tongue piercings, eyebrow piercings, are prohibited. Jewelry may be restricted for safety reasons, based on the position. Hair styles should be neat, professional, and appropriate for the workplace. Hair dye, if used, should be selected from the range of naturally occurring hair colors. Additionally, the following conditions apply to visible tattoos•: Tattoos shall not be visible above the collar level of a crew neck tee shirt Tattoos on the hand shall not extend past the first knuckle, closest to the wrist. Tattoos on the palm of the hand are not permitted. One discreet tattoo in the form of a solid, single color ring, not to exceed 8 mm in width, is permitted on the wearer's ring finger (not thumb), between the first and second knuckle of the finger. The display of unprofessional or offensive tattoos or brands, (nudity or violence, sexually explicit or vulgar art, words, phrases, profane language, symbols to incite negative reactions, initials or acronyms that represent criminal or oppressive organizations) are strictly prohibited.
