Job Description

Personal Trainer
Position Level:
Temporary/Part-time Reports to: Wellness Coordinator Position Summary The Personal Trainer is responsible for a thorough review of the client's personal health history, a fitness evaluation and consultation, and proper program design. This role is critical in aiding clients in learning to create realistic goals and establish a lifelong adherence to a safe and effective exercise program. Essential Job Functions (include but are not limited to)
  • Creates and builds positive relationships with members.
  • Designs safe and effective fitness routines for members seeking assistance and adapts strength-training programs to each member's specific needs and abilities.
  • Keeps accurate records of all personal training and wellness sessions.
  • Meets with new members to go over health-history forms prior to first training session.
  • Performs fitness evaluations and goal-setting sessions with new members and potential personal training clients.
  • Teaches members proper technique to use on fitness equipment.
  • Assists in maintaining member progress reports and tracks member participation in wellness programs.
  • Provides supervision and enforcement of fitness floor rules throughout shift.
  • Monitors fitness floor to ensure exceptional member experience (e.g., re-rack weights, clean machines, remove trash, log maintenance issues related to equipment, etc.).
  • Communicates problems, concerns, and changes in schedule to the Wellness Coordinator.
  • Is knowledgeable of and supports the Wellness Center personal training guidelines and protocols.
  • Follows emergency procedures and safety precautions. Follows procedures for reporting all accidents, incidents, and hazards.
  • Ensures all work meets or exceeds the organization's expectations.
  • Demonstrates professionalism when representing the organization in all communications with internal and external customers and vendors.
  • Sustains housekeeping standards in accordance with safety and appearance guidelines.
  • Completes and demonstrates a full understanding of ongoing training concepts and applications.
  • Emulates the organization's values in daily interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Meets organization standards on quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis and performs all work-related tasks in a manner that complies with all policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to the organizations' policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments while maintaining regular and timely attendance.
  • Performs other tasks, as assigned. Education/Skills/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field OR a minimum of one (1) year personal training experience OR a similar combination of education and experience.
  • Personal training certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), American Council on Exercise (ACE), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), or from another reputable certification organization is required.
  • Possess adult and pediatric first aid, CPR, and AED certification, or the ability to obtain within two (2) months after hire date.
  • Ability to relate to and communicate with a diverse group of people.
  • Maintains continuing education credits to ensure that certification remains current.
  • Working knowledge of the facility, equipment, operations, and techniques used in a comprehensive fitness program.
  • Ability to evaluate patrons' abilities and be able to provide first aid efforts, as needed.
  • Ability to effectively enforce safety and health regulations related to an fitness program.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, participants, and the public.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills and adherence to deadlines.

  • Report any unsafe task or operation immediately to management prior to continuing task.
  • Immediately report incidents involving injury, illness, safety hazard, or property damage.
  • Comply with all company and customer OSHA, safety policies, procedures, rules, and best practices.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training.
  • Be constantly aware of personal safety and that of co-workers.
  • Ability to use and operate common equipment to complete work duties safely and effectively.
Work Schedule This position operates on a variable-schedule workweek, requiring availability during days, evenings, and weekends. The role includes attending meetings, training sessions, and team collaborations that may occur outside regular business hours. Flexibility in these situations is essential to ensure the satisfaction of our constituents and the successful completion of projects. Working Environment
  • Solely works in the Wellness Center facility.
  • May be exposed to loud music, fitness equipment, and varying climate-controlled temperatures.
  • The position requires frequent interaction with diverse clients, fostering a professional and motivating atmosphere. Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods during training sessions.
  • Capability to lift, push, and pull equipment or weights up to 50 lbs. or more as part of demonstrations or assistance to clients.
  • Physical stamina to perform exercises alongside clients, including stretching, cardiovascular activities, and strength training.
  • Adequate balance, coordination, and agility to safely demonstrate and correct exercise techniques.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements, such as demonstrating exercises or setting up fitness equipment.
  • Visual and auditory ability to monitor clients and provide clear instructions in a fitness setting.
  • Ability to adjust to varying environments, including different temperatures and surface conditions.
  • Communicate vocally, electronically, and by telephone as needed. Training to be Completed
  • Maintains continuing education credits to ensure that certification remains current.
  • Facility-specific policies, use of fitness equipment, and customer service standards.
  • Personal trainers must participate in regularly scheduled in-service training to maintain skills and certifications.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the vision, goals, and objectives of the organization.
  • All relevant Business System software.
  • All applicable compliance training. Direct Reports This position does not have direct reports. Certificates/Licenses
