Job Description

Group Class Coach and/or Personal Trainer Fountain City Fitness Kansas City, MO Job Details Part-time $22 - $40 an hour 6 hours ago Benefits Flexible schedule Qualifications Certified Personal Trainer CPR Certification Sales Writing skills Personal training High school diploma or GED Crossfit Certification Group fitness Full Job Description Fitness Coach - Fountain City Fitness (Brookside/Waldo, Kansas City) •Must have AM availability multiple days per week. First class is 5:30 AM. If mornings aren't your thing, this probably isn't your role. Let me be straight with you. I'm not looking for the most credentialed coach in Kansas City. I'm not looking for someone who can rattle off the most programming jargon or has the most Instagram followers. I'm looking for the right person. Someone who genuinely loves people. Someone who remembers names, notices when an athlete is having a rough week, and understands that what happens inside this gym goes way beyond the workout. We've been open since 2014 and built something real in the Brookside and Waldo community - a place where a 45-year-old gets off cholesterol medication, where a nervous first-timer becomes a regular, where people show up not because they have to but because it's just what they do now. That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because of coaches who care. What you'll actually be doing: Leading group classes and one-on-one personal training sessions. Building real relationships with athletes across every demographic - we coach kids as young as 3, seniors 55+, and everything in between. Showing up for the community, not just the workout. Contributing to the culture we've spent 10 years building. This isn't a "run people through a workout and go home" kind of job. We coach. We connect. We celebrate wins and work through setbacks. If that sounds exhausting to you, this probably isn't the right fit. If that sounds like exactly what you've been looking for, keep reading.
What we need from you:
You must have - or be willing to obtain - a coaching or personal training certification (CF-L1, ACE, NASM, ISSA, CSCS, or equivalent). If you're the right person and don't have one yet, we can help facilitate that. But you cannot coach until you're certified - that's non-negotiable. Beyond that, here's what actually matters: You love people. Not in a generic "people person" way - you actually light up when someone hits a goal they didn't think was possible. You're a self-starter who doesn't need to be micromanaged. You're emotionally intelligent enough to read a room and adjust on the fly. You give and receive feedback well. You show up - not just physically, but fully present. Experience helps and pay will reflect it. But personality will always win here.
