Job Description

This position falls under the Fitness and Wellness unit of the Recreation and Wellness department at Old Dominion University. The overall focus of this position is to provide personal fitness training in a safe and effective manner to the members of the Student Recreation and Well-Being Center (SRWC). Personal trainers must be familiar with fitness consultation/assessment and must have experience designing workout programs for a wide a variety of clients. Additionally, all employees of Recreation and Wellness must follow all policies and procedures set forth by the department.

Assistant Director of Fitness & Wellness Coordinator of Fitness & Wellness Specific Responsibilities:
Instruct personal fitness training in a safe and effective manner Educate clients on perceived health benefits of physical activity Design individualized programs with modifications for wide range of clients Enforce policies and procedures of the SRWC Implement emergency procedures when needed
Additional Responsibilities:
First Aid, CPR and AED training (must be completed with the first 30 days of employment) The Department of Recreation and Wellness offers American Red Cross Certification classes each semester. Semester audits of First Aid, CPR and AED skills Deliver adaptive programming to various populations Conduct consultations, goal setting, and physical fitness assessment Address problems and complaints in a timely manner to enhance our image and program operation Attend required area and department meetings and trainings Deliver excellent customer service through effective communication skills, ability to multitask, and providing accurate information on services offered
Qualifications:
Maintain certification in primary personal training certification by a national recognized agency (ACSM, NASM, ACE, NCSA, etc.) Obtain and maintain a national recognized current certification in First Aid, CPR and AED training (American Red Cross, American Heart Association) Effective communication and organization Completed practical audition
Required Time Commitment:
Attend all training sessions and scheduled meetings Must be capable to training at various hours between 6:00 am - 12: 00 am Maximum of 20 Hours per week Attend all monthly staff meetings and occasional specialized events
Pay Rate:
Range of 17.27$/hour to 20.27$/hour based on certification, passing audition evaluation, and experience.
