Job Description
The City of Redmond is a thriving, culturally diverse community, and home to over 80,000 residents. We serve all ages, abilities, and interests through innovative classes and services offered at our facilities and community centers. We integrate unique art and cultural experiences into the activities, interactions, and events that weave our community together. People in Redmond explore our parks, play at our centers, and connect with their neighbors and friends. That's why our Recreation Specialist - Fitness Instructor is such an important role in our Parks & Recreation department. This position provides a fun, safe, and engaging atmosphere for participants in our fitness programs at the Redmond Community Center at Marymoor Village. This is a fantastic, part-time position for someone who has worked in a fitness center, personal trained clients, and/or taught group exercise classes. You will be successful in this role if you are enthusiastic about health and fitness and love to empower people of all ages and ability levels to achieve their goals.
Hours:
(Primarily evenings from 4pm-8pm Monday-Friday. Some weekends as needed.) The position is limited to a maximum of 29 hours per week on average and no more than 1,040 hours per year.Location:
6505 176th Avenue NE, Redmond, WA 98052 Essential Duties and Responsibilities Start classes promptly and end on time Perform any equipment/room set up prior to class Clean-up equipment/room after class ends Be flexible and accommodating to participants' needs and abilities Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of current fitness trends Knowledge of customer service practices Knowledge of ethics and teamwork Skill in motivating participants to achieve their potential Skill in applicable fitness format/specialty Ability to commitment to providing quality programming based on mission, vision, values Ability to safely manage groups of participants Ability to learn and enforce department policies and procedures Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with public and City staff Ability to proactively deal with safety and behavior concerns Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and be receptive to critiques Ability to promote interest and enthusiasm in related activities Physical Demands The following represent the physical demands that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: Work is performed in community center in multiple programming spaces Instructor responsible for bringing own music to be used in portable sound system. Frequent communication with City employees and customers Hours will vary and classes may be scheduled in morning, evening, or weekends Move items weighing up to 20 pounds on occasionEducation and Experience:
High school diploma or GED Degree in kinesiology, sports medicine, or related field, preferred At least one year of experience in leading group exercise classes Successful passing of a required background check.Licenses and Certifications:
Must have First Aid and CPR certification within two months of hire ACE, AFAA, ACSM, AEA, Spin or Zumba certification highly preferred Other Approved reasonable accommodation requests will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
