DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
Position Overview :
In this role, you will oversee pharmaceutical services and medication management operations within the detention facility while ensuring residents receive safe, accurate, and effective medication therapy in accordance with government detention standards, healthcare regulations, and clinical protocols. You will work closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, behavioral health personnel, and pharmacy staff to support resident healthcare needs, maintain pharmaceutical accountability, and ensure proper medication distribution and storage procedures within a secure detention healthcare environment. This position requires strong clinical knowledge, attention to detail, professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to manage pharmacy operations while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations and facility policies. Responsibilities :
Review, verify, and dispense prescription medications while ensuring accuracy, proper dosage, and compliance with physician orders and clinical protocols. Monitor resident medication therapy for effectiveness, drug interactions, contraindications, allergies, adverse reactions, and treatment-related concerns. Coordinate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, behavioral health personnel, and outside healthcare providers regarding medication management and resident treatment plans. Maintain accurate pharmaceutical records, prescription documentation, medication inventories, controlled substance accountability logs, and operational reports in accordance with DEA, HIPAA, and facility requirements. Ensure medications, controlled substances, and pharmaceutical supplies are stored, handled, labeled, and distributed safely and in compliance with regulatory standards. Conduct medication utilization reviews, inventory audits, reconciliation activities, and pharmaceutical inspections to ensure accountability and operational compliance. Monitor inventory levels of medications, medical supplies, emergency pharmaceuticals, and pharmacy equipment while coordinating procurement and replacement requests as needed. Provide clinical guidance and medication-related education to healthcare staff regarding pharmaceutical procedures, medication administration, treatment protocols, and medication safety practices. Respond to medication-related emergencies, urgent prescription needs, operational concerns, or resident healthcare issues requiring pharmacy support or clinical consultation. Support intake screenings, chronic care management activities, emergency preparedness operations, and continuity of care services related to pharmaceutical treatment. Assist with audits, inspections, accreditation reviews, quality improvement initiatives, and compliance assessments related to pharmacy operations and healthcare services. Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and attention to detail while supporting safe and efficient pharmaceutical services within the detention facility. Qualifications :
Must possess a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Pharmacist. Must possess a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited program. Must possess an active Pharmacist License in good standing with the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy (or be eligible for reciprocity). Must possess a current BLS/CPR certification. Must be able to provide proof of citizenship or legal US work authorization. If prior active-duty military, must provide copies of DD214(s) showing discharge condition. Must consent to fingerprinting. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent Clean criminal record and ability to pass a comprehensive background check and security screening. Ability to pass a preemployment medical assessment and drug screening. Excellent communication, observation, and report-writing skills. Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and in high-stress situations. Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Work Environment :
Employees may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise. Physical Requirements :
Employees may be required to remain in a stationary position, stand, push, pull, climb, kneel, crawl, balance, squat, bend, and reach. Employees may be also required to use gear to move items around, including, but not limited to, carts and dollies. Employees may also be occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds.
