ABSMC-Summit Campus Position Overview:
The Applications and Business Support Pharmacist supports the technologies and systems used by pharmacy services. This role bridges clinical pharmacy practice and information technology, leveraging both to optimize operations, enhance patient care, and support departmental operational, clinical, and financial goals.
Applications and Business Support Pharmacist Responsibilities:
Support and maintain pharmacy information systems, including, but not limited to, CPOE, pharmacy order entry, automated dispensing machines, inventory management systems, prepackaging and relabeling systems, electronic databases and formularies, and clinical documentation systems. Participate in the implementation and optimization of new technologies and pharmacy workflow to improve patient care outcomes, operational efficiency, financial sustainability, and regulatory compliance. Analyze departmental needs and contribute to the development and enhancement of hardware, software, and system workflow. Serve as a liaison between pharmacy and other departments, including IT, clinical informatics, nursing, finance, and external technology vendors. Provide training and guidance for pharmacy and clinical staff to ensure safe, clinically effective, and cost-effective use of pharmacy and clinical applications. Support billing and revenue management processes Support controlled substance program management, including anti-diversion efforts. Participate in hospital and Sutter Health committees as directed. Assist with downtime procedures and system recovery. Provide direct pharmacist services as needed, including staffing support during peak periods or absences, and perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
PHARMD-Graduate of an accredited pharmacy school Post Graduate Year 2 or equivalent experience
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE
RPH- Registered Pharmacist within 120 days ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support if required by the entity/department PALS-Pediatric Life Support if required by the entity/department
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE
5 years recent relevant experience.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Specialty Expertise or Advanced Certification. Demonstrated ability to influence physician prescribing at a subspecialty level.
Examples:
dedicated or spend more than 80% of work hours in any of the following areas: Med Safety, Informatics, Investigational Pharmacists, ID, ED, Pediatrics/Neonates, Oncology, Critical Care and other recognized pharmacy specialties. Knowledge of medical terminology, generic and trade pharmaceutical names, pharmaceutical calculations and laws and regulations. Knowledge and understanding of different Pharmacy practice settings, including narcotic delivery and procedures. Knowledge and ability to identify and employ pharmaceutical and medical terms, abbreviations and symbols commonly used in prescribing, dispensing, and record keeping of medications. Requires a basic working knowledge of legal requirements and accreditation standards including National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), The Joint Commission (TJC), Title XXII, United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and United States Pharmacopeia (USP). Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people. Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines. General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook), related pharmaceutical technology, EHR, and EPIC. Prioritize assignments and work within standardized policies, procedures, and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines. Work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions. Identify, evaluate and resolve standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options. Ensure the privacy of each patient's PHI.
