Reporting to the Director of Pharmacy Services, you will sit at the intersection of clinical practice, information technology, and data analytics — leading automation initiatives, partnering with interdisciplinary teams to standardize processes, and driving continuous improvement of pharmacy informatics in alignment with institutional goals and regulatory requirements. If you are a clinically grounded pharmacist with deep experience in pharmacy systems and a passion for using technology and data to advance medication safety, this is your opportunity to make a system-wide impact at one of the nation's most storied academic medical centers. What You'll Do Lead ongoing workflow analysis and continuous quality improvement initiatives across pharmacy and medication-use information systems to optimize efficiency and advance medication safety Supervise the build, implementation, and maintenance of automation and technology that optimize pharmacy practice, pharmacy systems, and the medication-use process across the hospital Evaluate new automation and technology solutions to enhance pharmacy workflow efficiency and increase medication safety Analyze and reinforce the use of data to support clinical and operational decision-making Lead and facilitate change management for pharmacy and medication-use IS standardization initiatives Partner with the Medication Safety Officer through incident review and chart auditing to identify opportunities for process change or targeted education that improve patient safety and ensure regulatory compliance Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, cohesive delivery of pharmacy software hospital-wide Partner with ITS and IT teams to optimize hardware, software applications, and interfaces in support of better outcomes Develop education and communication for pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other disciplines covering EHR functionality, pharmacy system workflows, and policy or protocol changes Promote adherence to the Health Sciences Compliance Program, the Howard University Code of Ethics, the Health Sciences Standards of Conduct, and HIPAA; maintain strict confidentiality of patients, families, and staff Required Qualifications Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree required Registration as a pharmacist in the District of Columbia, or eligibility for registry through reciprocity Ten (10) years as a hospital pharmacist with at least three to five (3-5) years of experience managing pharmacy information systems; or five (5) years as a hospital pharmacist plus completion of a PGY-2 residency in pharmacy clinical informatics Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Access and Excel Strong written, oral, and presentation communication skills Excellent organizational and negotiation skills, with the ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines Ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders with competing priorities Preferred Qualifications At least two (2) years of supervisory or managerial experience Clinical or informatics certification Experience with Cerner Experience with Pyxis, MacroHelix, Pharmogistics, or other inventory management software What We Offer Work-life balance Recognition and rewards for professional expertise Competitive, comprehensive benefit plans including health, disability, vacation, sick leave, and 403(b) retirement plan Tuition remission at Howard University for you and/or eligible dependent children — up to two (2) courses per semester A mission-driven environment rooted in over 150 years of excellence, service, and advocacy for the communities we serve About Howard University Hospital Howard University Hospital (HUH) is the nation's only teaching hospital located on the campus of a historically Black university. Salary range:
$119,558 - $191,277 annually , commensurate with experience and qualifications.
