Pharmacist Job Description This role provides comprehensive pharmaceutical services in a high-volume pharmacy environment, ensuring safe, accurate, and efficient preparation and dispensing of medications. The pharmacist reviews and verifies prescriptions, compounds sterile and non-sterile medications, oversees pharmacy support staff, and provides clinical guidance to nursing facility staff and prescribers. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with the intent to transition into a permanent position. Responsibilities + Review prescriptions issued by physicians or other authorized prescribers to verify accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness of therapy. + Determine correct formulas, ingredients, and processes required to prepare prescribed medications. + Compound sterile and non-sterile medications using standard formulas and procedures, including weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients accurately. + Ensure the accurate intake and processing of prescription orders and oversee the efficient fulfillment of all medication orders. + Dispense medications in accordance with legal, regulatory, and professional standards. + Support and counsel nursing facility staff on the proper use, administration, and storage of prescription and over-the-counter medications. + Advise physicians and other prescribers on medication therapy, including drug selection, dosing, and potential interactions. + Direct and coordinate pharmacy employees engaged in mixing, packaging, labeling, and making changes to prescription orders. + Provide leadership and clear direction to multiple associates to ensure safe and efficient workflow. + Perform data entry related to prescription processing, prior authorizations, and insurance information with a high degree of accuracy. + Monitor for and address potential drug interactions, therapeutic duplications, and other medication-related issues. + Support pharmacy management activities, including inventory oversight and coordination of pharmacy support functions. + Collaborate with team members to maintain compliance with insurance, Medicaid, and other payer requirements. + Contribute to a positive, professional, and customer-focused pharmacy environment. Essential Skills + Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college or school of pharmacy. + Active and unrestricted Pharmacy License in the State of Florida. + Demonstrated attention to detail in reviewing prescriptions, compounding, and dispensing medications. + Retail pharmacy experience in a high-volume environment, highly preferred. + Experience with prescription fulfillment, prescription refills, and pharmacy workflow in a retail or similar setting. + Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with staff, prescribers, and nursing facility personnel. + Strong oral and written communication skills for counseling, documentation, and collaboration. + Proven leadership abilities to coordinate multiple associates and provide direction to accomplish job functions. + Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or other Windows-based software programs. + Ability to stand for the entire shift as required by the role. + Knowledge of drug interactions, therapeutic considerations, and pharmaceutical principles. + Experience with insurance and Medicaid processes, including prior authorization and coverage verification. Additional Skills & Qualifications + PharmD degree is beneficial in addition to the required pharmacy degree. + Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) experience working with pharmacy technicians is a plus. + Experience in a long-term care or closed-door pharmacy environment as a pharmacist is preferred but not required. + Experience in pharmacy management or pharmacy support functions is advantageous. + Familiarity with compounding practices in both sterile and non-sterile settings. + Experience working in healthcare and retail pharmacy environments. + Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume setting while maintaining accuracy and quality. + Comfort with inventory processes and coordination of pharmacy fulfillment activities. Work Environment This position is based in a high-volume pharmacy setting that supports nursing facilities and long-term care environments. The standard schedule is 40 hours per week with potential opportunities for overtime. The regular shift is the second shift, running from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Sunday through Thursday. New hires receive two weeks of training on first shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The role requires standing for the entire shift and working closely with a team of pharmacy professionals in a closed-door or retail-style environment. The pharmacy uses Windows-based software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with pharmacy-specific systems for data entry, inventory, and prescription processing. The work setting emphasizes accuracy, efficiency, collaboration, and professional communication while handling prescription and over-the-counter medications for a long-term care and healthcare-focused patient population. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Oviedo, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $61.00 - $63.00/hr.
