Job Title:
Pharmacist Job Description This Pharmacist role focuses on safely dispensing medications, counseling patients, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to support effective treatment plans. You will work in a pharmacy setting that serves both retail and mail order needs, ensuring regulatory compliance while delivering compassionate, patient-centered care and excellent customer service. Responsibilities Dispense medications prescribed by physicians, nurse practitioners, and other licensed providers in accordance with all applicable state and federal regulations. Verify prescriptions for accuracy, appropriateness, potential interactions, and completeness before dispensing. Provide clear and empathetic counseling to patients on medication use, dosage, side effects, interactions, and adherence strategies. Answer patient questions by phone and in person, offering guidance that supports safe and effective medication use. Collaborate with behavioral health providers and interdisciplinary care teams to support treatment plans and improve patient outcomes. Ensure full compliance with State Board of Pharmacy rules, DEA requirements, and internal pharmacy policies and procedures. Perform prescription fulfillment activities, including order entry, verification, and checking, for both retail and mail order pharmacy operations. Support retail pharmacy operations, including prescription filling, refills, and coordination of patient pick-up or delivery. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to prescriptions, controlled substances, and pharmacy operations. Deliver a high level of customer service with a patient-centered, compassionate approach in all interactions. Contribute to a safe, organized, and efficient pharmacy environment that supports timely and accurate medication dispensing. Essential Skills Licensed Pharmacist qualification, with eligibility to practice in the relevant state. Proficiency in pharmacy dispensing and fulfillment processes in both retail and mail order settings. Strong knowledge of state and federal pharmacy regulations and DEA requirements. Ability to provide thorough patient counseling on medication use, side effects, and interactions. Experience with prescription filling, verification, and handling of phone-based patient inquiries. Attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing and dispensing medications. Strong communication skills for collaborating with behavioral health providers and care teams. Commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centered customer service. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a retail pharmacy environment. Experience with mail order pharmacy operations. Comfort managing a high volume of prescription filling and phone work. Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team. Work Environment This position is based in a professional pharmacy environment that supports both retail and mail order operations. The role involves a structured schedule with multiple full workdays of approximately 8.5 hours, as well as occasional shorter shifts of around 4 hours. You will spend most of the day standing or moving within the pharmacy while performing prescription filling, verification, and patient counseling, including phone-based support. The environment emphasizes regulatory compliance, accuracy, and patient safety, with processes and systems designed to support efficient medication dispensing and high-quality customer service. Appropriate professional pharmacy attire is expected in keeping with a clinical and retail healthcare setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Punta Gorda, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
