Job Description

Overview of the Role North Country Pharmacy is an independent, community-focused pharmacy serving Sussex County with personalized, patient-centered care. We are seeking a highly motivated, friendly, and customer-oriented NJ-licensed Pharmacist who is passionate about making a meaningful impact in their community. In this role, you will be more than the person behind the counter. You will serve as a trusted healthcare professional, providing expert medication guidance, educating patients, collaborating with providers, and helping ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a close-knit, independent pharmacy setting with the opportunity to build long-term relationships and grow with the business. Key Responsibilities Clinical & Patient Care Review, interpret, and verify prescriptions for accuracy, appropriateness, and legality. Counsel patients on prescription and over-the-counter medications, including proper use, side effects, interactions, and storage. Assess patient needs and symptoms, providing guidance on minor ailments and determining when referral to a physician or other provider is appropriate. Provide professional advice on OTC products, cosmetics, and parapharmaceuticals to support overall patient health and wellness. Administer immunizations and other clinical services (e.g., injections, point-of-care testing, blood pressure and temperature checks) in accordance with state regulations and pharmacy protocols. Dispensing & Operations Accurately prepare, dispense, and label medications, ensuring correct dosages, formulations, and packaging for individual patients. Maintain full control over stocking, storing, and monitoring medications and related products, including checking for proper conditions, expirations, and recalls. Organize the pharmacy work area for efficiency, safety, and accuracy in dispensing and inventory management. Maintain complete and accurate documentation, including patient profiles, controlled substance records, and other required logs. Regulatory Compliance & Quality Comply with all federal, state, and local pharmacy laws and regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures. Support and uphold policies related to controlled substances, recordkeeping, privacy (HIPAA), and safety. Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and service standards. Collaboration & Professional Development Communicate effectively with prescribers and other healthcare professionals to clarify orders, recommend therapy modifications, and resolve medication-related issues. Stay current with advancements in pharmacy practice, new medications, and clinical guidelines through continuing education, professional development, and collaboration with peers. Provide guidance and support to pharmacy technicians and support staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, accuracy, and customer service. Required Qualifications Current New Jersey Pharmacist License in good standing (required). Retail/community pharmacy experience (required). Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution. Strong knowledge of pharmacology, dosage calculations, drug interactions, and medication safety principles. Ability to accurately interpret prescriptions, patient histories, and clinical information. Excellent verbal and written communication skills , with a customer-focused approach. Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, empathy, and compassion in patient care. Preferred Skills & Experience Pharmacy residency or 1+ year of post-graduate clinical experience (preferred but not required). Experience in an independent or high-volume retail pharmacy setting. Familiarity with pharmacy management systems; knowledge of PrimeRx (Micro Merchant) is a plus, but not required. Proficiency with basic computer applications and pharmacy information systems . Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus, especially for serving a diverse patient population. Compensation, Schedule & Benefits Compensation Hourly rate: $55.00 - $65.00 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Signing bonus available for qualified candidates. Schedule Full-time position (part-time may be considered based on business needs). Typical shifts may include 10-hour or 12-hour shifts . Weekend availability required on a rotating basis.
