The Biologics Coordinator performs a variety of administrative tasks that require an in-depth understanding of each insurance carrier's authorization guidelines for medication approvals in order to ensure timely treatment for patients and reimbursement for services provided. Obtains prior authorization for all biologics, oral medications, and Specialty Pharmacy. Communicates with patients regarding authorization status and appointment times. Follows up with insurance companies, specialty pharmacy and patients as needed. Reviews necessary clinical data obtains physician clarification as required to obtain prior authorization. Reports noncompliance, overage or stop of medication in real time to all specialty pharmacies, notes all calls to specialty pharmacy including date of call, pharmacy, person spoken to and any other key details in patients' medical chart. Responsible to manage all aspects of these medications from receiving, logging in medications inclusive of lot numbers, tracking, assigning to the appropriate patient as well as reconciling and account for all medication inventory. Creates, maintains, and audits under physician supervision the policies and procedures for the biologics program. Maintains an appropriate level of inventory to meet the needs of the clinic balanced by financially sound quantities of inventory based on usage and appropriate turnover to prevent expired medications, eliminate, or reduce overage and revenue loss. Tracks and closely follows all co-pay assistance cards Understands the differences and usage parameters of specialty pharmacy drug, foundation drug, starter kits and sample medication. Can train all clinical team members on these types and usage and monitors for compliance. Monthly inventory inclusive of expirations dates monitoring and reconciliation of inventory on hand. Reports discrepancies with action plan to leadership. Follows all action required for recall notifications and appropriate destruction per company policy's, ours as well as the manufactures. Verifies all drugs are stored per manufacturer's protocol, in a secure location. Basic knowledge of the medications used in the clinic, any special handling procedures, disease application of the medications, REMS requirements procedures if required by the FDA. Maintains relationships with manufacture and wholesale distributors as well as their key personnel. Ability to administer biologics to patients Experience Required HS graduate, GED, associate degree or vocational education. Three years medical office experience required or pharmacy technician licensing Inventory Management experience preferred One to two years preauthorization experience preferred. Experience working in an office setting (beyond an externship) preferred. Medical insurance terminology required. Excellent organization, documentation, time management, customer service and telephone skills.Benefits You'll Receive:
