The Pharmacy Clinical Specialist - ICU/ED/Decentralized Hybrid serves as the primary pharmacy resource within the Emergency Department at Euclid Hospital, delivering real-time, bedside clinical support in a high-acuity environment. This decentralized role partners closely with ED physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize medication therapy for complex emergent conditions including trauma, stroke, sepsis, cardiac events, respiratory distress, and behavioral health cases. Responsibilities include responding to codes, trauma activations, and rapid responses, dosing and monitoring high-risk medications, supporting antimicrobial stewardship, and ensuring adherence to evidence-based protocols. While primarily based in the ED, this role also provides clinical support to critical care units as needed, contributes to ED-focused initiatives and governance, and serves as a mentor to pharmacy residents and developing pharmacists. A caregiver in this position primarily works a decentralized Emergency Department schedule on first shift, with standard hours of 8:00am. to 4:30pm. Weekend staffing is required every 6th to 8th weekend, with rotating shifts of 6:30am to 3:00pm, 8:30am to 4:00pm, or 1:00pm to 9:30pm. The role includes one holiday per year. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Routinely and continually provide pharmaceutical care for patients, considering their age and clinical condition. Provide general and patient specific drug information to patients, physicians, nurses and, and other health care professionals. Support Clinical Pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care to patients by direct interaction and formal educational programs. Maintain expertise in areas of practice through continual learning, journal review and other educational activities. Educate Clinical Pharmacists, Technicians, Pharmacy Students, Post-Graduate Trainees and other caregivers in Pharmacotherapy within in the specialty area. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: PharmD or Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of Pharmacy Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible within 90 days of hire Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire (if administering immunizations) Completion of a Post-Graduate Year 2 Residency (PGY2) or fellowship OR completion of a Post-Graduate Year 1 Residency (PGY-1) and two years of experience as a Clinical Specialist or an equivalent role, including providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring for at least 50% of time in the specialty area OR four years of experience as a Clinical Specialist or an equivalent role, including providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring for at least 50% of time in the specialty area Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Board certification Strong emergency medicine and acute care pharmacotherapy expertise
Physical Requirements:
Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing and walking for prolonged times, approximately 75% of shift and continuously for extended periods of time. Manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer and dispensing functions of the job; ability to lift up to 30 lbs. Position often includes reaching, stretching, stooping, climbing steps and sitting. Must have normal or corrected vision. Must have ability to clearly communicate verbally by phone or in person
