Miami Valley Hospital South The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist provides pharmaceutical care services by direct interaction with patients and providers. The pharmacist will spend the majority of his/her time in patient-related activities. These activities require a great degree of skill in patient monitoring, drug therapy review and assessing patient outcomes. The pharmacist performs a full range of professional practices in the Medication Therapy Management Clinic and the MVH Infusion Centers within their Scope of Practice and serves as a resource to other ambulatory practice clinics and Premier Specialty Pharmacy staff.
Education Minimum Level of Education Required:
Bachelor's degree Additional requirements: Type of degree : B.S. Pharm from an accredited college of pharmacy is required Area of study or major : Pharmacy Preferred educational qualifications : PharmD from an accredited college of pharmacy Position specific testing requiremen t: N/A Licensure/Certification/Registration Current licensure as a registered pharmacist by the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy, or eligibility to become licensed within 60 days of employment start date National Association of Specialty Pharmacy Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP) or completed within the timelines defined by PS to sit for examination
  • or Board Certified in practice area or Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) or Board-Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist (BCACPS) If not CSP upon on hire must complete the ASHP Specialty Pharmacy Certificate within 30 days of hire.

  • 3 years of job-related experience Prior job title or occupational experience: Hospital, Ambulatory Care, or Specialty Pharmacy Pharmacist Prior specific functional responsibilities: N/A Preferred experience: Meets the preceptor criteria as outlined by ASHP Other experience requirements: Completion of post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) or fellowship required
  • or•Completion of a post-graduate year 1 residency (PGY1) plus minimum of 2 years of experience as a clinical specialist or equivalent role which includes providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring•or•Minimum of 3 years of experience as a clinical specialist or equivalent role which includes providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring Knowledge/Skills Fluent in the use of drug information resources Ability to evaluate primary medical literature and develop evidence-based recommendations for treatment regimens Ability to perform Medication Use Evaluations (MUE) and submit recommendations for change within the health system Ability to provide pharmacokinetic and weight-based dosing Possess good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and problem-solving skills Ability to read and write printed material in English Ability to effectively perform Patient interviews and medication counseling Ability to work well with other health care workers and perform well within a team Must be customer-service oriented Proficiency with computer keyboard operations Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferred Ability to troubleshoot problems and/or do minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers, and telecommunication equipment with adequate training in the pharmacy.
