Job Description
Position Summary The Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) provides leadership and oversight of pharmacy operations across assigned states, ensuring compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations. This role is responsible for maintaining the pharmacy's operational excellence, leading a team of technicians, and serving as the primary authority for regulatory compliance and patient safety. The PIC will work with other pharmacist(s) to ensure continuous pharmacy services during planned or unplanned absences. This is a workers' compensation mail-order pharmacy —a non-customer facing, centralized dispensing operation that serves insurance carriers, employers, and claims administrators by filling prescriptions for workplace injuries. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Oversight Serve as the primary pharmacist responsible for all pharmacy operations within assigned states Provide direct supervision and leadership to pharmacy staff Foster a positive, compliant, and collaborative work environment Ensure all pharmacy personnel are properly trained and adhere to standard operating procedures Licensure & Compliance Maintain active, unrestricted pharmacist licenses in assigned states Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations (e.g., boards of pharmacy, DEA, HIPAA) Monitor regulatory changes and implement necessary updates to maintain compliance across all licensed states Serve as the designated contact for state boards of pharmacy and regulatory agencies Operational Management Oversee day-to-day pharmacy operations, including workflow, staffing, and service delivery Ensure accurate and timely dispensing of medications via mail-order fulfillment Maintain proper documentation and records related to pharmacy operations, compliance, and patient care Coordinate coverage for pharmacy operations during absences, ensuring seamless continuity Process Improvement & Quality Assurance Identify and implement opportunities for workflow improvements, increased efficiency, and cost savings Lead quality assurance initiatives and continuous improvement programs Establish and standardize best practices across locations Communication & Escalation Communicate effectively with pharmacy staff, corporate leadership, compliance teams, and external partners (e.g., payers, adjusters) Escalate issues, risks, or regulatory concerns to appropriate leadership Serve as the key liaison between the pharmacy and external regulatory bodies
