Exempt Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, five 8-hour shifts, working every other weekend with 10 hour shifts, with expectation to work addition hours and additional days as needed by the department. Your role with us As a pharmacy resident at Salem Health, you will practice pharmacy within a collaborative, patient‑centered healthcare environment while continuing to develop your clinical, operational, teaching, and professional skills. Working under the guidance of licensed pharmacists and pharmacy leadership, you will support safe and effective medication use across diverse patient populations while actively contributing to pharmacy operations, interdisciplinary care, and departmental initiatives. This role supports Salem Health's mission to provide high‑quality, compassionate care and offers meaningful opportunities for hands‑on learning, professional growth, and mentorship. What you'll do Review and evaluate patient electronic medical records, including medical history, clinical and laboratory data, and current medications (including OTC and home therapies). Evaluate and verify provider medication orders for appropriate drug selection, dosage, route, stability, and potential interactions; recommend therapy changes as appropriate Monitor and manage medication therapy for assigned ambulatory (and occasional inpatient, as needed) patients to ensure optimal, cost-effective outcomes Communicate with prescribing providers to resolve medication-related issues and document therapeutic interventions. Provide medication information, drug therapy recommendations, and pharmacokinetic dosing guidance to medical staff. Order and adjust medication dosages, order laboratory tests, and administer medications under protocol in accordance with established policies. Supervises and directs activities of certified pharmacy technicians, pharmacy interns and pharmacy students as well as pharmacy residents who assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy. Perform prospective drug use evaluations and provide medication counseling in compliance with OBRA '90 and Board of Pharmacy statutes and rules. Verify accuracy of medication preparation and dispensing performed by pharmacy personnel. Serve as a liaison to assigned departments or clinics, supporting medication inventory management, par levels, and required inspections. Participate in department committees, professional development activities, and special projects. Provide pharmaceutical care to patients across the lifespan. Required qualifications Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree required upon hire or within 90 days of hire. Oregon Pharmacist License required by October 1 of the residency year unless appeal process is warranted. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within two months of hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within two months of hire. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within two months of hire. Additional information Ability to mentor and assist in leading Pharmacy Technicians, pharmacy students, and pharmacy interns. Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals and the public. Willingness to learn acute care pharmacy practice and teach pharmacy students. Develop and maintain knowledge of pharmacy computer systems and state and federal pharmacy laws. Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications. Ability to offer and accept constructive feedback and demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and sound judgment. Why Salem Health?
