Job Title:
Pharmacy Technician Job Description This contract Pharmacy Technician role supports a distribution pharmacy by assisting pharmacists with safe, accurate, and compliant medication preparation and inventory management. You will work in a fast-paced environment, ensuring prescriptions are filled correctly, inventory is maintained, and all activities follow state and federal pharmacy regulations. Responsibilities Ensure full compliance with all applicable state and federal pharmacy regulations, including State Board of Pharmacy requirements. Receive incoming pharmaceutical products, verify accuracy, and store inventory according to established procedures and regulatory standards. Replenish inventory in a timely and accurate manner to support continuous pharmacy operations. Identify and pull short-dated, expired, or recalled products from stock and follow proper documentation and disposal procedures. Process product returns and maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all returned items. Fill bottles and automated cells with prescribed tablets and capsules in accordance with prescription orders and safety protocols. Apply prescription labels to bottles and packaging and verify that all label information is accurate and complete. Assist pharmacists in the preparation, packaging, and verification of medications while following standard operating procedures. Support prescription processing activities, including handling prescription information and coordinating with pharmacy benefits management processes as needed. Provide courteous and professional customer service when interacting with patients, caregivers, or healthcare professionals regarding prescription-related matters. Participate in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area in the distribution pharmacy. Follow all internal policies, procedures, and quality standards related to pharmacy operations and patient safety. Essential Skills At least 1 year of work experience in a pharmacy, healthcare, or closely related environment (note that specific business units may require additional experience or pharmacy certification depending on state law). Knowledge of pharmacy operations and terminology, including prescriptions, medication handling, and pharmacy workflows. Ability to assist with prescription processing, including understanding prescription labels and directions. Familiarity with pharmacy benefits management and prior authorization processes. Strong attention to detail when filling prescriptions, labeling, and handling medications. Ability to follow state and federal pharmacy regulations and State Board of Pharmacy requirements. Effective customer service skills when working with patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. Reliable transportation to consistently report to assigned shifts and location. Ability to work the required schedule, including evenings and Saturdays, and up to 32 hours per week. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Pharmacy-related education or training, such as PharmD coursework or exposure to pharmacy practice, is a plus. Experience working as a pharmacy technician or in a distribution pharmacy environment is highly desirable. Familiarity with prescription labeling systems and automated dispensing equipment. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting. Comfort working within a healthcare setting and collaborating closely with pharmacists and other pharmacy staff. Any required pharmacy technician certification as dictated by state law (where applicable). Work Environment This role is based in a distribution pharmacy environment that focuses on high-volume prescription fulfillment and inventory management. You will work primarily indoors in a structured, process-driven setting with frequent interaction with pharmacists and other pharmacy team members. The position follows a set schedule of Monday to Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. for up to 30 hours per week, with additional availability required on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., for a total of up to 32 hours per week. The environment emphasizes accuracy, safety, and adherence to regulatory standards, with established procedures and technology to support efficient medication preparation and distribution. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Memphis, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $61.00 - $61.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
