1. Pharmacy Operations Management:
Direct and oversee daily pharmacy operations, including workflow coordination for staff (technicians, drivers, etc.), employee scheduling, and supervision of medication dispensing activities. Ensure efficient execution of pharmacy services such as patient counseling, medication therapy management (MTM), vaccinations, insurance processing, regulatory compliance, and drug therapy management in a collaborative clinical environment. 2. Patient Drug Therapy Management:
Conduct comprehensive medication therapy reviews (MTMs) and drug utilization reviews (DURs) to identify and resolve drug-related problems, including interactions, contraindications, allergies, and Black Box warnings. Provide in-depth patient counseling on prescription medications, over-the-counter products, and supplements, educating patients on proper use, side effects, and adherence strategies to optimize therapeutic outcomes. Monitor patient responses and recommend therapy adjustments to providers as clinically appropriate. 3. Specialized Clinic and Facility Oversight:
Manage and dispense medications for an entire psychiatric clinic, multiple group homes, and four clinics. Responsibilities include verifying prescriptions, checking for drug interactions, optimizing therapies, and ensuring the timely delivery of medications to each facility. Maintain full compliance with state and federal regulations, including documentation and reporting requirements. Collaborate extensively with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to support initiation of new therapies, optimize treatment plans, and ensure continuity of care for complex patient populations. 4. Clinical Decision Support:
Provide evidence-based pharmacological recommendations to healthcare professionals, advising on drug interactions, therapeutic alternatives, and dosing adjustments based on patient-specific factors such as renal or hepatic function. Engage in collaborative practice with prescribers to improve patient outcomes and facilitate integrated care across multiple healthcare settings. 5. Chronic Disease and Preventive Care Management:
Deliver clinical services to manage chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia by providing counseling, adherence support, and patient education. Initiate and manage preventive health programs, including smoking cessation, diabetes self-management education, and weight management, thereby advancing community health outcomes. 6. Compounding and Dispensing:
Oversee and perform non-sterile compounding of customized medications, including hormone replacement therapies, topical creams, and specialized formulations tailored to individual patient needs, ensuring safety, efficacy, and therapeutic appropriateness. 7. Vaccination Program:
Establish and manage vaccination services, including COVID-19, RSV, and Shingrix, along with many others. Responsibilities include securing physician collaboration agreements, ordering and managing vaccine inventory, implementing handling and storage protocols, and ensuring compliance with administration guidelines. 8. Policy and Protocol Development:
Develop, update, and enforce pharmacy policies and procedures related to vaccine handling, non-sterile compounding, infection control, and controlled substance management. Ensure adherence to evidence-based practices, safety protocols, and compliance with regulatory bodies such as DEA, TSBP, and NCPDP. 9.
Staff Leadership and Training:
Recruit, onboard, and train pharmacy staff, while supervising technicians and support personnel to maintain high service standards. Provide ongoing professional development and ensure staff compliance with pharmacy policies and procedures. 10. Regulatory Compliance and Recordkeeping:
Ensure full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations governing pharmacy practice. Maintain accurate records for controlled substances, oversee audits and inspections, and implement corrective actions.
